This is my first post, I apologize if this issue was cover in a previous post.
On my first cross county (San Diego to Palm Springs) in my new C6 (< 350 miles), I received an engine warning light and "Service Fuel System" message on the DIC, my fuel gauge is also fluctuating between empty and full in wild gyrations. I find the closest Chevrolet dealer in Temecula and point my rocket in that direction.
It's Saturday, they close at 4pm, it is now 2pm and of course I do not have an appointment. The service director advises to make an appointment and don't worry about the light.
As a side note, while I was waiting to see the service director another C6 owner approached me with his story. Apparently he is having lots of electrical issues with his car. His trouble started with the loss of the tachometer, then progressed to the HUD failing and the loss of another gauge (I forget which). His car has less the 1000 miles on the odometer!
Does anyone have an reports on wide-spread electrical (or sensor) issues with the C6? As a previous C5 owner I hope I am not having déjà vu!
I had exactly this same problem on my C6 when it had 1100 miles on it. It was diagnosed as a defective fuel sending unit. Dealer replaced it and the problem was solved. Two months and 2,000 additional miles without reoccurance.
There are several complaints about sporadic electrical problems. None seem to be centered in any particular area.
Sounds to me like you either:
1) You have dirt/crud in your fuel line impeding the flow of gas or
2) you have a faulty sensor.
I recommend you buy a can of a premium “Fuel Injector Cleaner” at Pep Boys, Wal-Mart or some Auto parts store, usually $4-7. Read the can it usually sez “will treat up to 20 gallons". Ensure you don’t get too much of a concentration in your tank. e.g. if there is 10-15 gal in the tank now, pour in a can of cleaner and wash it down with $1 worth of gas. 150% strength is OK but more than double strength you risk damaging some rubber components in the fuel system. Then run it till the problem clears. If that doesn’t work you are dealer bound.

I would agree, but I have only put one tank of gas in the car and it is running perfectly (except for the gauge).
I am going to run it into the dealer and try and do without it for a day...
FYI - The best thing about living in So Cal is driving my rocket 12 months of the year, I can't imagine living in the snow belt, watching my car from the garage door!!
San Diego to Palm Springs is a cross country trip. I thought that was what you called a San Diego to New York trip. No wonder people are saying they drive their C6's on cross country trips and the car didn't break down once or that after their cross country trip, they felt so refreshed, like they had just taken a nap in their recliner.
I had same problem with fuel system. Dealer found " water intrusion of
wire harness to powertrain control module and corroded terminals -
replaced 14 terminals, cleaned and dried conduit, relocated harness and
secured.
