Be sure the switches (one on each side) on the bottom of the rear view mirror are also pushed in. In to turn the lights off, out to turn the lights on.
My right hatch latch was loose and the micro switch did not make contact. The hatch was closed but the lights stayed on. This could be your problem. Good luck, Jimmy
Thanks all. Just goes to show there are no stupid questions. Just stupid people that ask questions. I plugged the fuse in and pushed the buttons "in" and so far so good. I suspect I hit the switch above my knee and thought "out" meant "off." Not an electronic glitch...a brain glitch.

I had the same thing happen the day I brought the car home (and so have others). I never did figure out why they came on (and stayed) to begin with. I went out and restarted the car, then made sure I properly powered it down, and took the key out of range. It seems to do strange things if you turn the accessories on without turning the engine on, then walking away from it. Twice I have had to go start the car then turn it off again to make everything happy.
