HID Foglights: DIY with pics.
I couldnt stand how dull the stock Fog Lights were, so I knew I had to buy something good.
KIT DETAILS:
To replace the 42W Halogens, I bought an Apexcone H10 6000K 55W HID kit for the car.
This kit can be bought for ~175 and you can get a lifetime warranty for $25. With shipping($20) the grand total is $220.
BEFORE YOU GET STARTED:
This is NOT an OEM swap. If you want 100% reliability this is not a mod for you.
You may have heat issues, some transformers may heat up more than others. Worse case, you may melt the fog light casing or lens. This is something I'm willing to risk.
So you're a risk-taker? Welcome to the club.
The install was very simple. Unfortunately there were many interruptions and it took hours for me to complete just half of it.
Once I finished one side, the other side took me just 5 minutes!
This is a VERY easy mod, and the results are awesome.
Start with a clean car:
REJEX is GOOD STUFF!
One last money shot - I know you guys cant get enough
I turned the FLASH OFF so you can see what it looks like STOCK:
Prop up the car on jackstands, and take the front wheels off. Dont forget to loosen the lug nuts before you jack the car up,
it makes things easier. Check out the brake cooling duct.
We need to take off this panel to access the fog lights. Taking the wheel off sure makes things MUCH easier!
Use two screwdrivers to pop up the CENTER plastic piece and then pull out the whole assembly.
Pushing the center in locks the plug in place, so dont try to pry it out without the center popped up!
This may be common knowledge but I'm still new so bear with me.
There we go, we can finally get the real work started.
The wiring is REALLY simple.
* Unplug your stock headlamps.
* Twist it counterclockwise and pull it out slowly.
* Insert the HID bulb - Take care not to touch the bulb. If you think the bulbs are dirty,
clean the bulbs GENTLY with an alcohol pad/solution.
* Bulb orientation DOES MATTER in this case. Take a minute to study the 3 prong pattern and match it.
With Apexcone, the shielded wire goes on the bottom when properly installed.
(These instructions may only apply to Apexcone units)
* Plug the bare blades plug into the car's connector (Blue to Purple)
* Use electrical tape to secure the connection.
* Plug in female end into the transformer.
* Plug in the unique ends of the bulb connector to the bulbs.
THATS IT! This is what mine looked like after I was done:
Just look at the difference between the left (HID) and right (Stock).
There is no comparison, I'm really pleased with the results!
I turned the flash off to get a true comparison.
This is after both were installed. You'll notice the stock 4300*K is noticeable warmer than the 6000K fog lights.
The lights need some adjustment but I'll take care of that tomorrow.
I have learned a lot from this forum and I'm trying to do what I can to help out. I hope this does help!

I was afraid that the fog lights would overlap with the headlights and create too much light in the middle.
I'm so glad I was wrong! The fog lights have great spread and they compliment the headlights very well. The HIDs light up the sides really well too. I took the car for a drive after the install and I could easily drive with just the fogs on.
Btw, I noticed that my car blinks the fogs when I turn it off. Anyone else notice this?

Looks great. THe fogs do slightly overpower the head lamps now, but I am assuming it will be tought to get a perfect match.
Anyway, can you please provide a direct link to purchase this product? Thanks, and congrats.

dpracing:
I got this through a friend of mine, but I noticed that you can purchase them directly from Apexcone.com for $170 (with shipping and +$25 for lifetime warranty).
You can also get these kits from eBay for $150 shipped. I think the sellers name is "nissangtrpower".
Here is a big HID Foglamp thread:
http://forums.corvetteforum.com/show...=HID+for+lamps
Direct Link to the product I have: http://www.apexcone.com/hids1.html
Please remember that I just "happen" to have this brand. I don't know if they're any better or worse than other kits available. I did like the lifetime warranty part though.
Tom:
Yes I saw your note in the other threads. I think I'll do that in the future. Did you get the LEDs or just white bulbs? Also, would you mind posting the part number?
Thanks!
Aceman:
I did run them for a while. The car went into battery protect mode!
I thought the HIDs would run much cooler, but both the lenses felt about the same (my hand was my thermometer).
I do have an infrared thermometer, I'll check the temps and let you know.
Thanks all.

I have them in my car as well. I love them, I don't even need the high beams which I had installed a set of PIAA bulbs in them as well. The high beams seem dim compared to the HID low and fog lamps now.

The lights are really down low and you can see in the last pic that they are cut off pretty well.
Still, I didnt want to go blinding people, so I had my buddy stand at a distance and look at me as I drove by. I came up him and he starts talking about how cool the exhaust sounds with the fuse pulled off
He said the lights weren't bad at all and he didn't think I was going to get flashed.
However, it does throw a lot of light pretty high up on either side of the car. I don't think that'll be a big issue.

The fogs are aimed low enough that oncoming traffic shouldn't be bothered. Also, I thought that HID's actually make less heat at the lens, but overheated stock wiring is the issue. Anyone know for sure?
