[Z06] GM document for normal oil consumption ridiculous
#41
I am a new Corvette owner. Although I have owned several GMC Yukon's and trucks this is my first Chevy after driving for 35 years. After reading the posts on the engine with that died on the track and this thread on the oil usage I was beginning to wonder if I had made a terrible mistake. I love my Z06 and seeing intervention by Chevy Customer Service quells some of my discomfort. Now, make it right.

I know most guys here have owned more than one Vette and I'm sure the ones on their first one will get another down the road .... if they are treated right.
This is my 6th Vette

Same experience here--even with a few track days on each oil change.

I was contacted by GM customer service today and informed that my 1 quart per 1000 miles is considered normal consumption on my C6Z06.
So there you have it. I told them that the bulletin number 01-06-01-011E that was sent to me by a forum member states that normal is 1 quart per 2000 miles but no solutions or options were offered.
I appreciate the GM customer service contacting me but I expected some resolution. Difficult to make sense of spending $70K for a vehicle that may burn oil like mine and for which you will have no backing from the manufacturer for a remedy to the problem.
Oh well

Do NOT accept this...
My Mercury Grand Marquis, with 200K miles consumes 1qt/2000 miles. There's "no way" that 6qts/5000 miles (which is what you've observed with your car) is acceptable. Even according to GM's own TSB which states (1qt/2000 miles is not acceptable). The customer service/order taker was just feeding you with BS!!!
Don't give up on this...

I hope Geoff chimes in again.
Regardless the reply is not adequate and you need to persue it, hopefully with Geoff's help.

Have you checked for your states lemon-law requirements? Some are pretty easy, 4 visits for the same problem etc.

This is true... I was one of the ones that got thier C5 re-ringed - and they didn't do it willingly. Had to build a case as was afforementioned. I blasted GM for thier "uneducated consumer" form response letter and eventually got results. Car was 2001 C5 coupe.

I drive aggressively and run through 1 quart of mobile 1 5w 30 a month at approx. 550 miles a month. Change oil religiously and check it weekly. On my 2nd gmpp major guard so the car is maintained at reliable checerolet in Richardson Texas. It is a great cat! I actually enjoy going to work!

Went thru this same bull **** with GM & an RV chasis manufacturer (Workhorse) on 8.1L engine. Normal usage was 1qt to a tank of gas (75 gals). Well if do the math all need to do is change the filter and you will have already done an oil change. Even was told it could up 30k+ miles... Warranty was 3/36.
Bottom line... The hole is to big or the piston is to small. Rings not seating is bs on an RV engine as it very seldom goes sbove 4,000 rpm's.
GM is just covering their corporate ***.

2009 Z with 65k Miles purchased new.
I have 2008 C6Z06. Commuter with 21K miles. (Have the C5 T1 car to kick around) I noticed it was consuming 1 qt per 1000 miles which is much more than any corvette, or for that matter, any other car I have owned.
So started an "oil consumption" process with my local dealer. Well after doing this for the last 5K or so miles and it consuming 6+ quarts, I was told yesterday that:
According to GM document #2222953, normal oil consumption for high performance engine LS7 is 1 qt per 500 miles and that GM DVM Ray Moffat advised that this is normal oil use.
Very disappointing to say the least.
Anyone else experiencing this type of oil consumption and does this sound reasonable?
