[Z06] Rear Hatch Closing - Air tight?

Rear Hatch Closing - Air tight?
If i try to close the rear hatch with all windows and doors closed , it wont latch , ill have to press down on the hatch to latch it in place.
If i have a wondow or door open , close the hatch normally and it latches no problem.
Is it really that air tight in there?
Anyone else notice this on theres?

Yes - you either have to drop it higher, or push it down. This is why later-model years were equipped with an "assist" (basically its an electric motor that pulls the hatch all the way closed).

I just got so used to leaning a door open before closing the hatch that I don't even think about it anymore.

My understanding is that the rear hatch was designed like that to keep the car light. Same idea as the door handles, or more accurately, lack of door handles.
