Default HELP: TPMS sensors for weld wheels

hey guys.i have an 08 z and will be installing a weld drag pack.
Fronts are 17x4.5, and rears are 17x11. I know that the rear wheels will accept the typical tpms sensors. The question is will the front? I heard from a couple of people say they will not. I have seen some different styles online. I do not want to run them w/out sensors b/c of the potential abs/traction/handling problems associated with it. I was wondering if anyone has any experience with running them in skinnies? The one I came across was the ITM rubber style which looks more promising than the regular rectangular style. I prefer the black valve stem b/c I will be powdering the lip on the wheel.
thanks in advance, C.J.

I run my sensors in a canister. I leave it in the garage and park next to it unless I'm going to be taking the car over a 20 min drive.

That sensor works pretty much like any other rubber snap in valve sensor...so if regular TPMS wont' work on welds then these won't either.

FYI....ITM makes a metal stem sensor with a black stem. Metal is better than rubber for high performance applications.

I tried the canister and it worked short distances like you said. I go for long cruises and i need another option.

The rubber sensor seems to be less bulky. I would definitely prefer a metal stem but if that rubber style works i would rock it.

Depending on the model year the TPMS sensors in a can solution ranges somewhere from sub-optimal to worthless.

There are two real options - One is pony up the bucks for the TPMS eliminator device that LG sells, the other is a company that will program out the sensors from your BCM. The hassle with the second option is you have to remove your BCM from the car, ship it there, have it programmed, ship it back then reinstall it, but it is cheaper solution compared to the LG box.

Thanks for the info. What is the name of that company? Where is the bcm even located?
Do you know how much they charge?

It's the module in the passenger footwell.

Reading the review of that option, not something I would consider.

I don't run TPMS in my welds. Never had an issue. I don't see a need for it. I can drive ~100 miles before anything happens, and even then just get a warning and hit reset once.

thanks for the info dan.

I have no problem seeing the tpms light as long as I can still run the car normal and not have any ill affects from no sensors. My buddy was doing a pull once(has weld drag pack with no sensors) and the car just cut off on him mid pull. He was getting warnings that day, and we did a long cruise too. I just don't want to deal with that potential problem.

I had to pull the ABS fuse during a mountain run a few weeks ago. It sucks, no two ways about it.

If the White Automotive solution eliminated the lights and warnings, I'd have sent it in already.

that sucks. I might get the rubber ITM just to do a test fit. I have some time b/c my front wheels are about a month out. I will give an update when the time comes.

I've never ran them on a drag pack and don't intend to. Once you get the error message, click twice on the HUD and it's gone. More money for no performance gain. YMMV

Only thing no TPMS does is limits you so you cant select comp mode. You can still turn everything off, so I don't see the need to spend money.

..or go around a corner at more than 45 miles per hour w/o the ABS module stabbing the brakes.

Again, you are talking about a very specific use case, e.g. put your drag wheels on, drive straight to the drags (a short drive), do some passes, come straight home and then put the street wheels back on - if that is the use case, then I agree, don't spend any money on a solution.

thanks for the good advise guys. This setup is for straight line fun so you all make a valid point. I guess I'll just save the money and rock them with no sensors.

Or drive 100+ miles to track, not a short drive, and then drive back and forth to work for a week, around town, to home depot, etc. Never an issue. I've left the welds on for 6+ weeks at a time and no issues.

I do believe there is differences between years, but on my 2006, I've driven 1000+ miles and months without TPMS, and nothing besides a warning light that you hit reset. Reading the reprogramming option, you still get that, so I don't see the need to pay if you still have to hit reset when car starts.

If I leave the tires with TPMS in garage, it resyncs every time I park, and then I can drive indefinitely without sensors as long as I don't go over 100 miles or so without resyncing.

I'm definitely not wasting the money on them now. I can live with the dash light. Its on all the time anyway b/c I run <20psi in the rears.
