Options when gas attendant puts wrong octane gas in your car
I always get premium gas in my SC vehicle. However I've had more than one occasion where the attendant picked the wrong octane fuel and I've had to correct them.
What are the options if they fill you up with 87 octane by accident?

Don't drive aggressive and fill up with the right stuff when you can. It's not like the engine will suddenly implode.

so OP was asking for what to do, and you guys are discussing different thing! LMAO
anyhow, I would not be drive hard, and have an octane booster added, then once there is more room for more gas I would add 93 or 91.
did this with my 2014 shelby gt500 and it had a KB blower 3.6. and all was good

So some feel you can just drive easy on it and it will be fine, and others say you have to re-build the motor
I think I'm more confused than before I asked the question LOL

ECS told me that if that happened the ECU would pull timing to protect the motor. It would recognize the lower octane and compensate by pulling timing. Obviously drive it easy and don't beat on the car and replace with good gas as soon as you can.

If the tune isn't too aggressive and its not a big power build, the knock sensors likely have enough time to compensate for it and pull timing. I will tell you this though, if you run meth injection you likely have nothing to worry about. Meth really cranks up the octane level and will in most cases protect the engine.
For example.. In the LS engine platform I have ran 93/meth at over 1000whp for years now and with a heavily meth dependent tune the car stops making power at about 22.5 degrees of timing up top. 22.5 is already frowned upon by the people that don't really tune cars because someone at one time told them that you cannot do that, but the bottom line is that a car wants what it wants and that's a totally different conversation. I had north of 24 degrees into that engine times and NEVER saw a hint of detonation on the sensors or on the plugs, the car just simply did not make any more power.
What does this mean? If you are worried about someone putting the wrong fuel in the car and you don't have a meth injection kit, get one.. Because it will likely be that safety buffer you need to save your engine and allow you to drive it like normal even with the wrong fuel. Is it foolproof, no.. Buts its a great safety net.
