New C7 Pic (as of 7/16/08)

I love how when someone posts a picture of a car, a bunch of people cry about it as if it's set in stone that what they are looking at is the production model no matter how early in the development of the car may be or whether or not it has been verified development has even begun.

[QUOTE=1991Z07;1566347973]Hmmm...and the concept car (you know...the next generation Camaro) for the original Transformer movie is ACTUALLY making it into production...
True, but in the case of the Camaro, the design was already public and being hyped and shown by GM. There was no secrecy about it, and GM had all but stated that the concept would see production. This case is a bit different. Although I don't read every car magazine written, I am yet to see anything out there in the mainstream press about the C7.
Besides, love it, hate it for whatever it is, that car is a bit over the top in terms of what GM has ever done or will probably ever do to a production Corvette. It is not something the majority Corvette demographic would gravitate toward, IMO. I think the replies in this thread for the most part prove that point. Considering the financial situation of GM, they are really not likely to design their signature, flagship car in a way that only a handful will appreciate. I would look to see something more sublime and sellable. Probably much like the other picture on this thread. Again IMO.

Maybe a radical departure and over the top is what they need for a change. As far as looks are concerned I can guarantee you'll read, "The Vette might as well have been a big brown box", when we see it parked next to something like say a Ferrari or a Viper. I wonder what kind of styling cues, curves and air ducts a new gen Corvette would have to have to nullify that tired statement.

On the transformer, I don't like the very front and the rear, but I do appreciate the curves inbetween.
This is even better, though. I wish they would adopt this style for the base C7 so that I could afford it.

If you are talking about the silver Vette, that is a real car, I saw it personally when it was made over a year ago. I don't believe that it will ever see production, but at one time, we at work, thought that it was going to be the SS, or as you know it, the ZR1. that is what was once referred to as the Retro Vette.

I know that I'll get beaten up for saying this, but I have to
A good car design is something that evolved over the years and still maintains some design values from the past into the future.
See how Aston Martin has maintained their basic styling and still managed to evolve the car into the present days.
If a car changes its basic look too much everytime a new model comes out it loses it tradition.
GM has done a fair job with Corvettes, but I think it could have been better.

The silver fastback coupe is the most coherent design I have seen in some time that mixes tradition with the future. The overhangs need to be tightened up but the side profile is very well thought out and balanced. With a price less than the current Z06 Chevy could move 50,000 of these cars the first year. For those who can remember 1968 it would once again be a bold visual step into the future.
Unfortunately GM moves with about the same speed as a glacier on a chilly day.
The chairman needs to take a very sharp knife and carve out a whole bunch of those lazy *** licking SOB's in middle management and get things moving again. Sooner rather than later this time or there won't be ANY next time. Get busy...

The design above is blah. Why is it in this thread? If GM is leaning towards softer lines like this, then count me out. I don't want another weak looking Solstice rebody. I don't want plain. I want Z06 badassery. When the Z06 came out, that was great. That was aggressive. That was something to lust.
I'd save my pennies for the Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen Corvette concept. Not that Z03 Ugur Sahin Design abomination.

I think to say a "The Vette might as well have been a big brown box..." is losing sight of what the Corvette is. It's a world class sports car for the common person. Of course a Corvette might appear diminished parked next to a Ferrari or a Viper. I'm not so sure that it is a matter of appearance as commonality. You just don't see Ferrari's or Vipers every day. That is because they aren't designed to be daily drivers, nor driven by "common" people. The Ferrari is ridiculous expensive to own and maintain, and the Viper is just a bear to drive. I've been around this planet for a while, and I am yet to meet anyone, (that appreciates automobiles) that doesn't think the Corvette is cool, any Corvette. The transformers car is cool in it's own right. It would make a cool production car, yes, but not a Corvette. The Vette has been a winner for a great many years, and will be for many more to come so long as GM does not lose sight of what the Corvette represents to the average American.

Well said. Whatever they come up with should be a hit. That's if they do, the way some people around here are talking.

This is very exciting. I really love it. On the contrary to the rest in here, I love the grill, cool hint at the C1. Split window is also a must! This is what GM should do in my opinion, a more drastic change, like the change from C1 to C2 or C2 to C3, but keeping the heritage a live. A think this is a revolutionary design, but true to the Corvette history. And also, yes, keep the four round lights at the back. Let's hope the C7 looks like this ...
I'm also a big fan of the Z03 model ...
The mid engine design looks absolutely horrible ... A bad Lotus design ...

I understand what you're saying here, but I don't completely agree. I mean, to me, the Corvette doesn't feel like a brown box compared to a ferrari at all. Maybe todays Vettes, but looking back at the C3 chrome bumper model, I think it is one of the most beautiful designs in automobile history. I think it looks as beautiful as, let's say, a Ferrari GTO or anything else high class. And to create such a beautiful car in a payable way, that is the power of Corvette.
I still love todays Vette, I think the C5 and C6 are very cool cars, but that is because I'm a Vette addict. The C3 model on the other hand is something that stands way above everything else, it looks special, even to this day. I don't know how I should explain this.
This is what is missing today. A C6 is a cool car, but nothing special. That is why I think GM should really try and redesign their supercar, yet stay true to the history. I think this concept looks fresh, and really stands out to anything I have seen lately. I think it looks really exciting ...
Just my 2 cents

Oh-Oh Looks like the guys who did the ugly new Camaro have been at play..
It is a little squashed looking, surely (don't call me Shirley) they are not going to make a car that needs a Sealy Posturepedic for a seat? You would need to lie down in that puppy. I see a second car in the rear, are you sure this is the new car..? For sure, the Palooka in the photo on Autoblog is never going to fit in that mutt..
Even this guy finds it less than "The Car Of The Future"

I keep on telling myself, "It's for movie, it's for a movie, it's Hollywood, it's for a movie." Don't call me Shirley either.
