Default Dealer says C7 in showrooms this time next year.

That's what I heard second-hand at a recent cruise from a guy who has a 2010 grand sport. He said the guy showed him a picture of it, from the description sounded like the Transformers car pix that have been posted here. Just another rumor, sounds like.

So, I know there are dealers on this forum. Do they know anything more than anyone else about the C7?

First, the 2011 production year C6 Vette will start this summer and continue through June of 2011. Second, and most importantly, we would have had some spy shots by now even if they were going to release it as a 2012 model year. I saw the transformer movie, and the radical design sideswipe is NOT going to be the C7. IMO, with the ever decreasing Corvette sales since 2009, we are probably looking at a C7 launch date as a 2013-2014 model year if not later. Plus, they have got to start appealing to the younger crowd as the current average Corvette buyer is now 55 years old, and as much as we love the Corvette, this does not bode well for the future of Corvette.

I am part of the younger crowdat 23. The C5 and C6 both appeal to me and I am a current owner of a C6. Most of my friends my age or younger who are all into cars love Vettes. The only problem is the price. The younger crownd simply cannot afford a new Vette. GM needs to target those who can afford the car but not old people who may make the C6 their last new car purchase. As long as they keep a high power V8 and exotic looking styling, the car will sell. When the economy turns around people will start buying 50K+ cars again.

I agree price is an issue. In today's dollars, my '80 would cost under $36K new, and they sold over 40,000 that year.

Hate to tell you but GM already has a "performance" car that the younger crowd can afford over a Corvette. Its called the Camaro. I doubt they will lower the price of the Vette. It would be nice and Im sure they would sell a hell of a lot more.

Same reason Porsche has $60-75K Boxsters/Caymans for those who can't afford $90-200K 911s .
Or Dodge selling Challengers/Chargers when a Viper is but a dream, etc, etc.
IOW, you aren't going to see a Corvette,911 or Viper ( or any high end flagship ) selling new to avg Joe College Grad . Life doesn't work that way- the next higher up product( whether home , car, vacation ,etc ) is always priced " just outta reach " until you work hard enough to attain it, then start over again to reach the next level .

Well, now we know for sure that the C7 will NOT be in showrooms this time next year.

It's always a sure bet that anything a car salesman tells you is either flat out WRONG or just plain BS.

How can you tell a car salesman is lying to you?

Friend of mine went into a Chevy dealer last week and looked at a new Z06. Asked the salesman if the top came off, and the salesman said yes, let me show you. After getting in the car and trying to take the top off, the salesman got out and said that the top does come off, but he did not know how to take it off on a Z06, but he would find out how from the service manager. So take what you hear from a dealer with a large grain of salt.

Well the '06 and '07 Z06's top did come off. After you had them for awhile the top would delaminate.

"IMO, with the ever decreasing Corvette sales since 2009, we are probably looking at a C7 launch date as a 2013-2014 model year"

With decreasing sales numbers I would think a C7 would come sooner than later, not updating a model when sales start to slow is the opposite of what is normally done. Sales are mostly driven by product and if you have an old product range there is little incentive for people to buy.

I agree... this statement released quite some time ago, it was stated as fact if I remember corretly... I don't understand why people are thinking the C7 will be delayed.

How does this work since the 2011 Carbon Z has already been shown to be a C6?

Built in 2011(late) as a 2012 model

Maybe because new models, especially in the Corvette's league, are typically preceded by spy photos, rumors of testing, etc. I have yet to see or hear any of that. Of course, it's totally possible that GM is REALLY good at keeping secrets, but I kind of doubt it.

It's also possible that the C7-generation is going to end up as nothing more than a warmed-over and re-skinned C6 and therefore doesn't require much testing at all. If that is indeed what we are getting, then I actually could believe a 2012 model year intro is possible - sooner is definitely better than later. But if this is actually the case, then I'll be pretty let down at the same time. I really wanted the C7 to raise the bar to a new level, not merely jiggle it.

We shall see...
