Marketing Man
The Sept issue of Cotrvette MAgazine carries an interesting interview with Jim Campbell, Chevrolet's VP of Marketing. Some Corvette comments:
" Do I want Corvette to appeal to a core customer base and also invite newer, younger enthusiasts in? Absolutely! But the average age for the high-sports segment is 58, and the whole segment tends to be upper 50s. That makes sense because it requires both discretionary income and a love and passion for sports cars."
"That's ($50,000) about average for the segment, and there's definately a correlation between price and age. . . . I don't see the lineup changing at this point. I think we need to remain dedicated to and promoting the Corvette and also work with our vehivcle line team to develop product news that can be a catalyist to excite buyers"
"Yes, I want some younger folks, and I want people who are passoniate about sports cars. I think Corvette provides the right combination of style, performance, fuel economy and value and it can be a daily driver."
". . . I can tell you that performance cars are part of our DNA at Chevrolet, so our commitment to and support of Corvette and Camaro will continue."
" I have a tremondous passion for the sports-car segment, and that will be a key part of our growth plan."
Get the magazine and read the whole article. Remember, this guy is a marketer and judge his words accordingly.
As for me, I like marketers to talk this way!
