On November 8, 1911 he partnered with Little and Campbell to establish the Chevrolet Motor Car Company in Detroit, choosing as the company's logo a stylized Swiss cross, to honor his parents' homeland.[3]
I believe the Swiss Cross is a white cross on a red background. So if you use your imagination you can see how he or someone might have angled it to come up with the bow tie.

it is easy to tell if this is a legit emblem - Make one and try to sell it. If it is the emblem that is going to used by GM you will probably here from Equity Management Inc. Equity Management Inc is the company that protects GM's trademarks.

Louis Chevrolet got it from a wall paper design in Paris, when he was looking for a logo of his new car. Read this when I visite GM in Detriot several years ago.
