"Cadillac working on a mid-engined sports car inspired by the Cien Concept
A source revealed that Cadillac’s new flagship model will resemble the Cien concept, which was first seen at the Detroit Auto Show in 2002, according to a report from Car and Driver. The source said that an all-new platform will be used on the two-seater Cadillac and it will likely share a mid-engine architecture with the rumored C8 Corvette. Car and Driver said that to justify the costs to produce this model, it will have to be priced at least $150,000.The Cadillac Cien Concept was powered by a 7.5 L V12 Northstar XV12 engine, which delivered 750 hp. This experimental engine featured direct injection and Displacement on Demand, which enabled the engine to run on only six cylinders under light load.

General Motors' Advanced Design Studio in England designed the Cien whose sleek style was inspired by the lines of the F-22 Raptor. On the other hand, Cadillac may choose a large sedan, code-named “UP” (Über Premium? Ultra Pretentious? Urethane Protected?) to be its flagship and to rival Audi’s A8, BMW 7-series, and the Mercedes-Benz S-class. This product is expected to be positioned above the upcoming XTS in the range. A decision is expected by the middle of this year."

Would explain the rumors about the C7 being a short run. It would work like this; finish C7 run at BG, move C8 to where both mid engined models are to be built. Also, drop the ZR1 in favor of the Cien concept.
That would make the C7 a re-engined C6 with cosmetic upgrades.

I just don't buy into what the magazines say, they are looking for sales for their magazine. Time will tell I guess.

Well, it makes sense from both technical (mid engine, an insider talk for several decades) and business (sharing platforms, move productions to a new factory or make BG produce both cars) sense. I, for one, welcome our new mid engine overlords, but it is clear not everyone shares my point of view.
