Default Timeframes and Three year platform roadmap

Just back from the bash and here is the skinny:

2011- Year of the just shown 2012 Centenary Models with revised
seats, audio, 2 new colors, new tires on the high end platforms,
some interior tweaks, choice of color calipers and stitching in the
interiors(nice cars by the way).

2012- A 2013 "60th Anniversary Comemerative will appear, along with
a couple of final tweaks, and continuous improvement
initiatives; the C6 platform is now complete

2013-An April-June timeframe release of the C7, a model year 2104.

Presently there is a "color crisis" underway with Cyber Grey, Mag Red, and Black all in hiatus. There is a serious search for other color options as a contingency with some Green being considered and "on deck" for accelerated release later this year if the existing hiatus colors don't free up. The Carlisle Blue is the same blue used on the new Cruze and won't be offered very long "if at all possible." Again it's there due to the current "color crisis" and a stop gap. You can bet on this info and timeframe, some of which has now been released to the public. Thx.

Currently, May 1, 2011 + 2 years and you have 2013. It only 2 years and you can continue to keep dreaming of the C7. Think of it as an opportunity to save more $$$$ for buy an top of the line C7 ZR1.

It is a long time away - 2 more years.

Guess what happens when you buy a car a year before the real comes. All those miles you drove the 2014 in 2013 all of a sudden add double to your deprecation.... Your 2014 has 20,000 miles on it per year. Instead of the 10,000 miles if it was released in the correct year. So the Blue\Black Book deducts double on your mileage hit. It sounds nutts but that is how it works. Double deprecation!!!!!

I too attended the Bash and heard nothing that could be taken as an announcement on C7 release date. Quite to the contrary, the CE and PM where very careful not to speak about any specific date. Even my trick question about the Gen VI engine date only brought a big smile and some dancing around.

The only comment by the CE about the C7 was "a few years".

Please be specific when you identify the occasion of the remarks about the C7 release date. Who said them, when and where at the Bash.

If it's going to take THIS LONG for the C7 to come out, I highly doubt it's going to be "a C6.5".

I am very anxious to see it. I really hope there is a hard-top model, as well! That's the only way I'm buying. It's why I had to step into a Z06 this go around.

^This.
And I doubt a C7 Z06/ZR1 will be coming out with the base model, I would assume they would be coming out a year later...so 2014 for the top range models......
I may get tired of my C6Z by then

I was there too and you're right, they only would say the C7 was a few years away. But then only a few days later Mark Reuss was across the street telling employees the C7 would continue to be built in Bowling Green, in Spring 2013 as a 2014 model.

While you can find the official doctored press release made after Reuss's remarks and thousands of new articles about Reuss's comments you can't find a recording or transcript of what he actually said. For example the following statement from the press release is NOT a quotation in the press release!

"The plant in Bowling Green is scheduled to continue building the current generation Corvette for at least the next two model years, including the 2012 model year that begins this summer. During this period, the investment starts to take effect, preparing the facility for the next-generation Corvette."

From the above statement you would conclude that, the current C6 will at least continue as a 2012 and 2013 model year car.

Then there's the added statement which Reuss made in a telephone interview in which he said he was riding in a Corvette ZR1 after announcing at the Bowling Green, Kentucky plant that GM will invest $131 million to retool for the new, seventh generation of the Corvette.

"It ( the Corvette) has a completely different look. Don't ask me how or what, but people will be really surprised, in a good way," said Mark Reuss, GM's North American president.

So we have a completely different look Corvette which will appear no sooner than a 2014 model year car that requires or will benefit from $131 million in captial investmnents.
That timing seems to fit the production dates for the Gen VI engines from the Canadian plant. A DI engine with a different type of combustion system (whatever that means).

The only other thing I would be willing to bet a modest amount of money on is some sort of trans that fits the automatic shifting-manual type rather than the manual shifting-automatic type currently used.

I would not be willing to bet on a mid-rear engined Corvette.

As to building another car at BG, Cad is wanting a MB SL style car. BG would be the place to do it. So would an entry level Corvette with the turo V6 at 380hp.

My personal wish is that some of that money is being spent to convert the production line so that ALL Corvettes use an aluminum chassis whose design is optimized to the use of aluminum rather than the current design the Z06 and ZR1 presently use.

I think that we are just going to see more ZR1 bleeding into the other models is about it. Probably some fancy paint/sticker work. GM is milking it and they know it. I really think it's for the best, though, as it means the C7 had better make up for all of it, and I think they know that and plan on it.
