My club (East Tennessee Corvette Club) just went through the Bowling Green plant Monday. Great tour as usual.
We were treated to a special viewing of the 2012 ZR1 with the optional "Cup" racing tires. These tires are good for about 3000 miles on the street! Replacements go for around $900-$1100 each. GM figures that this is a non issue for a car that starts at $110,000. This thing is almost a pure race car. The new seats looked very supportive, but they will be hard to get into and out of.
We asked the two engineers that showed us the ZR1 about the C7. Of course they couldn't say a word about it but DID say that if you want a new Vette you might as well buy it now because the C7 won't be out for at least 2-3 years.

Tom
Standard answer from all GM employees, designed to keep people buying new C6's rather than wait for C7's.
It may wind up being less than 3 years, but they are not going to tell you that.

Hard to get in and out of for whom? At 6'2" 200 lbs getting into my Recaros is fairly easy. The typical vette owner is a bit on the fat side... and I say that as nicely as I can. An optional sport seat is greatly appreciated. They should just add a bench and a lift for the rest of the buyers.

Yep, and I can't wait to buy a "last model year" C6Z brand new once the dealerships slash the prices on them to make room for the C7. I remember when the C6 came out and had a $5k-$15k mark-up and the remaining C5s on the lot had a $5k-$15k discount.

In the press release of the speech Ruess gave at BG, the time peroid was stated as two model years counting the 2012 model. That would mean a 2014 model C7. I don't know if that comment was made before or after Akerson vetoed a new engine for a "sports car" set for production in 18 months. Nor do I know if the "sports car" mentioned by Akerson was the Corvette or the new product line to be introduced at BG.
soooooo close, take the cage out and loose another 200 pounds, 7.16 ?
We where actually there while they did the run, there was also the new MP4 Mclaren sadly it crashed out.
Proper race seats, loose total 50 pounds
Titanium exhaust, another 35 pounds
Lighter clutch and flywheel from factory, easily 20 pounds
Lighter CUP tire, no runcrap:-) 10-15 pounds
Ok so thats a 100 pounds off and another 1 faster tire, bet Jim could beat the GT2 RS by three sec
I am thinking 2012 for 2013 model year. It just seems to be leaning that way.
After all; Chevrolet does not want to loose sales to Porsche, Nissan, BMW, Audi and Mercedes. Honda is going to release it's NSX in 2013! By having a new model for 2012; it will get new buyers - if the sports car has nice interior and looks sharp. If Chevrolet puts as an option an automatic in the ZO6 and ZR1; they could triple sales volume. This is according to a Corvette salesperson. I guess their are shoppers that do not want a 6 speed manual; like me.
The DCT is away out; since GM want to built it and not buy it from a third party like Ferrari, Porsche or BMW.
That's exactly what I said Harry. Did you not read my post? We're in 2011, but we have 2012 cars out now(did you not hear about the 2012 ZR1 hitting a 7:19 at the ring with Cup tires?).
Don't quit your day job.
What Corvette do you own Harry? I'm looking at your profile, but you've never filled it out, even though you've been signed onto this forum for the past 2 years. What background do you have with Corvettes? Do you own one?
Looking over your posts in the last two years, I see a lot of questions about C6's and options, and a lot of posting, speculating about the C7. Nothing about you owning a Corvette. Explains a lot of your posts.

Just stop. Most of that post was incorrect. Seriously do you have a vette? Also, can I get your feelings on the latest GTR upset to the zr1?

This will be a tight secret since they want to keep selling the current model. I would think it would be here sooner rather than later since the current sales are dismal. The longer they wait the more the competition has a chance to get us and there are some nice cars out there in this performance segment.
