C7 to Get a 7-Speed Tranny?
Reports leaked that the C7 will have a 7-speed manual tranny:
5th Gear: Corvette follows Porsche's lead into seven hand-stirred gears
According to a tweet by Edmunds' Inside Line, GM is going the way of the Porsche 911 by fitting the next-generation "C7" Corvette with a seven-speed manual transmission. They tweeted out the following: "A trusted source tells us the C7 Corvette will be offered with a 7-speed manual gearbox. Yes, seven." Which begs the question: How many gears will a computer force future Vette owners to skip for fuel economy?

That would be cool for top speed, fuel mileage isn't going to get much better than the current 6th gear because the engine can only chug along at an RPM that is so low.
They need to keep the C5 Z06 1st and 2nd gearing, add a new third and fourth gear, make fifth the 1:1 ratio, setup 6th for optimal top speed, and make 7th for cruising.

I'm not going to buy that. The LS series of engines has massive power under the curve. There is no need to add another forward gear. It would be just several more moving parts, more rotating mass, and serve no useful purpose that I can imagine.
This is, in my opinion, more BS spread by GM because they enjoy it as they have readily admitted.

There should have been another gear in there. That is my opinion.
