I guess Bob Lutz has been in multinational business so long he adopted the Chinese definition of "revolutionary," i.e., poorly execute a rip-off of years old designs and edge the originals out by building it to a price and selling it cheap. Here's betting it has the first ever set of vinyl-covered Recaros.
This might just be a hoax. Is it too far fetched to believe that GM created fake C7 bodies and intentionally allowed them to be photographed by Jalopnik in order to create controversy and misdirection? It would be one helluva evil genius marketing scheme if so.
So...
what about the intakes on the rear quarters and the vents (which remind me of the tail lights on a 78 Caddy) on the back. What is being cooled in the back there? Transmission?
I'd love to speculate about the engine being back there, but the dimensions of the car say front engine.
i think this is the Jalopnik car under those covers. Look at the wheel gap between in the rear between these two different cars. I think there is a different drive train layout causing that to happen.
I am thinking that the site of the winter testing in the pictures is Kapuskasing (GM's winter testing home) -- located 450+ miles north of Toronto, within the Arctic Circle.
Seeing the pictures reminds me of chapter 58 in James Schefter's "All Corvettes Are Red," the book written about the development of the C5 by the author who actually was allowed to attend C5 Corvette development meetings over a five year period.
Exciting the see the C7 mule(s). Knowing the winter testing of the C7 is underway is pulse-quickening. Can't wait to see what's underneath the camouflage.
I like the general style of the prototypes. I'm probably in the minority, but I also like the Jalopnik renderings.
I just hope they are doing something to improve traction to get out of the whole quicker. I would like to see the Z06/ZR1 varients (or whatever they may call them on the C7) to achieve a sub 3.0 sec. 0-60.
I'm with you. I think the renderings and the prototypes look pretty sweet. I think it's a tendency for people to like what they own more than the thing that replaces it. It makes them feel better about their investment.
Not sure if anyone pointed this out but the front amber reflector matches the art work as well, the roof however is definitely from a C6 when the rendering showed a smoother roof. But so far it's hard to deny that the rendering was inaccurate.
The left and right outer tail lights are round. I think what you see is the vinyl tape cover part of it to change the shape. I though the same, but re-looked. The rar vlance upper mirror the connection to the rear quarter the same as the C6. The diffuser has an added part at the bottom, closing it up like some of our venders here have sold. I would surmise the rear hatch is going to look like the Carvaggio set up.
Designer Imagines A Corvette That Looks More Like a Corvette Than the Corvette
Slideshow: A Jaguar designer's personal project imagines what a modern front-engined Corvette might look like if Chevrolet revisited the golden age of the Stingray.
