Umm, do you really believe that EITHER of those two auto industries (be it globally, locally or otherwise) would even exist today at all if the U.S. had decided many years ago that they shouldn't? How about you give me a break.
I believe that was the (very valid) point that 'Racer X' was trying to make above.
Now, I'm not some over nationalistic or arrogant "USA rules all" type flag waver (though I have no problem with those that are) but German and Japanese manufacturing was literally flattened, destroyed, demolished in the '40s bro, that's a fact.
GM, Ford, Chrysler (among others) were still going strong at that point.
What has happened since that period is another story of course.

O2*C5--You must be new. I traded my 2009 C6 for a 2012 BMW Z4 28i back in Janurary. I traded because I wanted to get rid of a car that the top creeked, the NAV was from the stone age, and the seats were very uncomfortable. The interior was a KMART model as described by many of the auto mags.
Mr McGirk. Sorry for not responding to your question. The answer is 2012 BMW Z4 28i.
Do you remember the question?

Well, it hasn't been all for naught. I mean we almost. . . almost discussed the Marshall Plan. That could have been a great discussion on whether that was a good/bad/somewhere-in-between idea.

E.G. Marshall? He was a good President in a bad time.
And he was a germaphobe that REALLY hated bugs too:

Also, why do we care how a car is transported again?
Like I said, I may not be aware of the history of some of these conversations so forgive my ignorance.

Perhaps there is more of a history here than I am aware of, or perhaps these are just tongue-in-cheak comments to incite some of the other members, but is this an insinuation that the C6 is only a straight line performer and doesn't do well in the turns?

Ignore him. It's going to take a while for him to leave. After all, he drives a slow car.

He is truly unaware that the C6 out brakes and corners anything BMW currently produces.

BMW's including my new Z4 are shipped in enclosed transport. So was my Lexus. My CTS and Corvette were not shipped in enclosed transport. Premium brand vs non premium brand shipments. Open carriers with cars covered with a bed sheet is not cool or good protection., in my opinion.

Lexus, Mercedes Benz, and BMW ship their cars in enclosed transports. That is their business. Every manufacturer has a choice. I like the fact that when I order a car my supplier is interested enough in the safety and well being of my car to take all steps required to protect it.

When an uninformed or naive consumer (ya know, the ones that are merely under the perception (deception?) or impression that they're getting more than they paid for) pays $50k for what is really just a glorified $35k car then of course that car company can afford to ship it in an enclosed truck. It adds to that whole 'perceived quality' smokescreen that the dealership had just laid on them LOL.
I'll take the open trailer and a $49k sports car that performs like (or even better than) a $95k sports car should instead thank you.
