Yes, of course it is.
But there is also a strong connection/correlation along with shared technologies that goes on between V8 model Camaros and Corvettes, no?
I think that is what he might've meant by that.

Huh?

I assume that you're just joking around here? Because if you're not...yes, a stock 2013 Mustang GT500 will beat a Camaro ZL1 and base Corvette (in a straight line at least) but the C6 Z06 will still match or beat it and a C6 ZR1 will clearly beat it in ANY measured performance test.

The Mustang GT 5.0 might be a decent race for a stock C6 LS2 maybe but it has NO CHANCE against any of the cars you've listed above.

As for how the 2013 GT500 might do against the base C7?
Well, it's too soon to tell just yet.

You are correct, I should have said the 5.0 with a power adder will be as fast at the track as any of them.

True, that has already been proven actually. When modified properly those new 5.0s are VERY fast.
The Boss 302 is amazing as well, not too much focus/attention on those cars lately but that might just be the most impressive of the new Mustangs overall.

Yes, there are some similar, if not identical components in both cars, but the platforms are entirely dissimilar. There are similar, if not identical components in Silverados and C6's probably, as well.

Anyway, the Camaro is fast, but too heavy. That problem is being addressed, I understand.

True.

And it is being addressed. There is talk that the next generation Camaro will be built off of the same/similar platform as the brand new Cadillac ATS line, a MUCH lighter layout than the current car's.

That is good info. Thanks. In 2-3 years, you think?

I'd like to replace my 2002 SS, but I really don't like the current generation of Camaro. I like the Mustang ragtops better, in fact.

The variable steering damping, 3rd-gen MR suspension and PTM are what I'm mainly talking about. It laps like a C6Z (non Z07 spec), yet weighs 1000lbs more. It's clear GM is serious about performance and uses it as it's primary differentiator. The C7 will demonstrate the next level. Expect better than C6Z performance.

Horsepower is going up, and for the moment, gas prices are going down. 2013 should be an awesome year for gearheads.

The MR shocks have been very well received . . . Perhaps with high volume, the cost will be shaved a bit.
