Guess what the HP/tq will be of the base C7
#25
I think 500hp will be the magic number. I think GM will need to break 500hp just for the marketing more than anything else.
Audi R8V10 500hp+
Porsche Turbo 500hp+
Nissan GT-R 500hp+
Viper 500hp+
Ferrari 458 Italia 500hp+
Lamborghini Gallardo 500hp+
McLaren MP4-12C 500hp+
Mercedes SL63 500hp+
BMW M6 500hp+
Shelby GT500 500hp+
Camaro ZL1 500hp+
CTS-V 500hp+
Will it be so hard for GM to extract 500hp out of this motor with direct injection and all the new (and old) technology while being eco-friendly? Hope not. Base Vette better be 500hp+ with a Z06-like model (if it comes out) with 570hp+. 500hp was a standard supercar figure a few years back. 500hp will help move this car. Plus who wants to be 200hp LESS than a stock production Mustang? :-)

Say adios to the $50K Corvette. Maybe it's just as well.
And following that logic... what does a 575HP base mean we'll see from the HiPerf C7 model(s)? Party time!!!
C6 owners will be upgrading en masse. Get ready BG. Used car lots will be overflowing with Corvettes.

I'll go with 455-460/440. I can see the 5.5 DI gaining a good 15-25hp over the LS3.
Should get great fuel economy as well as put the Porsche 991S in the rearview.
I can't believe some of you are still stuck on the base Corvette competing with the high end versions of other models. Doesn't make sense.

I read somewhere the engine will be based on a 5.5L V-8 QOHC configuration with direct injection and turbo charging. Apparently, supercharging has too much parasitic loss to get the higher fuel milage. Also read the C7 Z06 is supposed to be 600 bhp. I have no idea if ANY of this is at all accurate...But, this is supposed to help them keep up with the European exotica...

My DD sedan has a roots blower and it has an electric clutch(like on the front of the AC compressor) that disengages the supercharger when it is not required. The air flows around the supercharger directly to the intake manifold, thus no parasitic losses.

Is there more parasitic loss during boost than a turbo setup? I understand when supercharges aren't pumping air, they're designed to sort of, well, free wheel. But, during boost, I'm wondering if there's more loss than with a turbo charger because it's a exhaust driven device rather than driven off the crank directly by the engine. I know the SC provides much more instantaneous throttle response where a turbo's is a lot more elastic and delayed....
