Don't think GM had much of an internet presence back in 1996. The biggest leak was the picture of C6 rear clip minus the CHMSL and surrounding spoiler. Remember wondering what was possible purpose for the ugly hole in the top of the bumper cover.
GM's process for releasing C7 infromation has made the ever shorter and colder days of the coming winter a little more bearable - wonder how we'll entertain ourselves this time next year?

I hate it. I'm not much on "suspense". Either give me a real picture or just keep it to yourself. Having to go through these things for a glimpse is just a PITA. After the first one, I just quit fooling with it. I'll find out next month.

I think it might be good here to remember that the C5 came out in 1997 and the C6 came out in 2005?

History is ALWAYS prologue. Today's marketing practices, worldwide, are not the same as yesterday's. Might as well get used to it

Speaking of which. There's a new pic on Facebook today. GM is not making anyone follow...it's all by choice. Lol

Even in 2004 before the C6 the internet wasn't nearly as widespread and the large corporations hadn't really realized/utilized its marketing potential. Facebook was just launching around that time (for college students only), and while faster internet was certainly available, many people still had either dial up or slow broad band <2mbps connections that wouldn't have handled high quality streaming video very well. Heck, YouTube wasn't even created until February 2005!

I do definitely recall reading rumors and "insider" tidbits about the C6 Z06 on this and other forums, though!
