Default hatch closing

when closing the hatch on an 08 at what point should the latch grad and close automaticlly

I always just lay my hatch down gently, then push it into the pulldown. Nener drop it.

my concern is if i lay the hatch dwn and slightly push on it it doesnt grab, if i let it drop from about 7 inch it ingauges and closes properly. other wise with the other senerio sitting about an inch it will not grab
