I just was sitting reviewing comments and pictures of the C7
and it is just so refined, too much so.

I also just realized, that the modern C3-C6 Corvette has lost it's identity, it's has been stripped from us, it's stuggle
from the low powered mid-seventies..to the awesome C6 ZR1...Corvette had become a gear heads dream, a monster engine in a monster performance package. A real hot rod.

Last night they rolled out a computer, wrapped in carbon fiber, and aluminum, albeit a high horsepower jewel.

But, my friends, GM has stolen the Corvette's Mystique from us.

The C7 is beautiful, but..it is too refined...what is the fun of the computer doing all the work? Computer hunting for the right time to slam it into gear?...all kinds of modes on the dashboard..it's not Atari,,it's supposed to be a sports car...something you interact with...you DRIVE IT...this new car..is driving YOU....suddenly I had this thought..and had to share it..sorry..just my rambling opinion..but what happened to the days when you rolled out, and just went and had ***** to the wall fun in your Corvette? learning to drive it to the limit..without all this wizardry?...as I said...tech has stolen that..and we won't see it again. I love the car..I just hate the idea that the Vette as we have all known it..a hairy beast of a thing...is pretty much shot dead in its tracks.
very sad.

The same can be said for every other car. A new BMW doesn't even have a dipstick, except for the diesels. We kind of crossed a bridge when suddenly you could no longer buy a Lamborghini with a manual gearbox.

WELCOME TO THE WORLD OF TOMORROW!

Got to disagree. Better handling, more power, stiffer frame. The driver still has the choices of how much to turn over via driving modes, only now you can set up each mode to your liking!

I don't want "MODES" I want a clutch, a stick, and a big *** whompin V8 and a cop behind every tree...man..this is exactly what I mean..they have stolen the fun of having a Vette..in the C7, Put on your Tux..drive to your country club, and have at it...with your modes...ha ha ha..

Actually, let's all be careful out there.....

and in reality...it is what it is...technology catching us dinosaurs...of course I would take a C7..
no question about it...but...it's really sobering to learn that the computer even rev matches..
amazing...for this old man to comprehend...

Best to you, Derek

A lot of folks missed their horses when the car first came out.

But Corvette's target market grew up playing Atari, Playstation Need for Speed.

They grew up with the option to view the analog gauges or a digital version on screen. They grew up going around a corner too fast and hit reset if it didn't work.

Make no mistake this car is aimed squarely at that generation.

The ones that are just about right side up on trade in value of their Camaro and can afford a $100-$200 bump in their car payment.

I agree that technology is taking away the experience of driving, but it's the same as how driving took away the experience of walking/traveling. It's the evolution of all things. Things want to be disorderly, but they also want to be efficient. Why have a manual gearbox with nothing to help where people can make mistakes when you can have a manual gearbox with rev-match to make sure it's done correctly? Yea, it takes out some fun, but if you want REAL fun then go try riding a bucking bronco.

I agree that there's so much technology that it's sort of distancing us from real experiences, but it's the fact of evolution. I don't agree or disagree with the direction technology is going, I'm just pointing that out. It's not some sinister plot or random "losing our way" thing. It's evolution.

On another note, personally I find automatics with paddle shifters to be more enjoyable because when I want to relax and drive I can, but when I want to play I can use the paddles. As engaging as a manual? Not hardly ... but, it's still control over the vehicle! It should be pointed out that I don't track at all though and in THAT case I think having a straight manual is a great challenge, but they already said you can turn off the nannies

You are correct about the computers and technology advanced modes; however, nobody has taken anything and nothing has died. Previous generations have given the ability to focus on things to improve/incorporate on. Those who say they don't like it or wanted it to look like a c this and c that can always buy one of their likings; there are plenty of well maintained ones out there. Buy old school and never look back, but don't **** on peoples kool-aids that want a modern and refreshed looking vette...and it does look like a vette. This last sentence not directed at Docdereck, but to all the cry babies on this forum.

I have a good friend who loves old cars - He decided he wanted the Classic Muscle car he lusted over in school. He searched and found one.

Then he discovered reality - it needed power steering. And a brake booster. And then there was the issue with the roll up window crank and come Texas summer, the complete lack of Air Conditioning.

He now drives a Grand Sport.

The past seems like a great thing but it's never as good as we remember. Todays cars are faster, safer, cleaner and just plain better than any cars in history.

I wholeheartedly agree w everyone...just being a cranky old man...ha!..and hell yeah my broken back would much rather cruise in a suspended C7 than my initial 69 coupe, lol bone jarring, old clackety- clack-clack calipers rattling on the railroad tracks..for sure, and although I had A/C it was still jarring, hot and loud..in Fort Lauderdale summers.

I will eventually be driving a C7... But boy do I envy the kid that is plunking down the deposit right now..who is below 30..and can reap the benefit of the tech.

I have watched all the vids.and all the press..
this thing is really well done, and subsequent performance models are going to be unbelievable.

and as far as the horse..yeah I can ride, rope, and barrel, just as well as anyone...on a plug, or in a car. Best..
