After all the discussion of the C7 matching or exceeding the C6 Z06, it finally comes to light that the performance target was the C6 Grand Sport. HP/TQ = 450/450. Weight is not less than the current Z06. All other performance metrics closely match the current GS.
I had to laugh at all the people on here who said it would out perform the Z06 ( I knew they were full of it ) . Of course most of those have never owned or driven a C6 Z06 in their life time, and have no idea how incredibly fast it is. I have owned 2 of them. C7 will be a fast car No doubt about it. But the car was built to slightly better than the current base and GS and be great competition for Porsche 911 Carrera, Caymen, GT3, ect. Won't get close to a GTR or Porsche GT2 or 911 TT on the street, but on a track it should be more competitive. The Nurburgring lap times will be interesting, Can't wait.
And yes I do like the C7. they did a great job. It will loose a lot of current corvette fans though, but ultimately gain new fans.

Well, what the car does is inspire passion. You either love it or hate it. I personally love it. I think GM nailed it with this one.
No, it's not going to outrun a Z06. However, on a road course, given the weight distribution, stiffer chassis, and steering and differential upgrades, and of course venting of brakes and tranny, it might not be as far behind it as the estimated power numbers might suggest. I feel like the little things like holding the accelerator a little longer on the straights, and getting back on it a little sooner and a little harder out of a turn will help it out. If... the car can be fitted with something a little meatier than the factory 285's. That one has me scratching my head.
But we'll have to wait for some test drives for all of that info. Still I like it alot.
I don't think it will out 0-60, or 1/4 mile the ZO6, but I think it will be a tick quicker on a track. Better chassis, better electronics, perfect 50/50
closer gearing, driver can stay in his seat now.
"The numbers haven’t been finalized, but expect something on the order of 450 horsepower, 450 lb-ft of torque and 0 to 60 times of under 4.0 seconds – which Juechter notes is better than the current Corvette Z06."
Just the messenger.

me too. Very curious to see what lap times it will throw up at the Ring.. my bet is, it's going to throw up times very close to the C6Z, if not a tick quicker.
All the upgraded technology and suspension, computer enhancements and braking come in to play. It's not just about peak HP. Look for example at what happened to the Z06 when they basically equipped it with the ZR1 package (minus engine of course) and brakes..... at some tracks it beat the ZR1 (having 138HP less) at other tracks teh ZR1 won, but not by much.

the 285 tires are probably just there for fuel economy. Wider tires bring it down, and the EPA regulations require that the fleet of vehicles meets a certain average MPG.

I doubt that was the primary reason, but I won't argue the point.
This does allow fitting of A/S and winter tires to the car as many of us do on our C6 base cars. I love driving mine all year with Michelin Pilot Sport A/S Plus ZP tires. I can look forward to that pleasure on the C7 also.
