I talked to Tom Peters in 2009 at the NCM and expressed to him the need for some type of roll protection in future models, as its only time with the Highway Safety Commission will require it. He agreed and did tell me that GM is looking into several "transparent" safety bars. We then talked about the new Mini Cooper Convertible and how they got rid of those ugly loop bars that cut the vision down from the driver, and when to a hidden bar system, he told me that GM is looking into a similar method. We then talked about MB and BMW using the large bar that dispatches like air bags when the car goes to a certain angle in a roll condition, and he told me outright to look for it in the near future.

So it just looks like there is something their, I would guess to say the black pieces would flip upward over the tops of the headrests providing head protection. But then again maybe its just a design and nothing is there...wait and see.

Very cool, I'd very much like to talk to him!

I would love to see them do something that would allow those of us who drive a vert to track them. Having nothing when we have to spend more for the vert is a real screw job, IMO.

Think I like the stock rims better than those. Would love to see it shopped in silver or black.

The base coupe is a targa.

I know those are only renderings but, looks like this new car might translate well into a full convertible.

Hey look very close and you will see the crossed flags and waterfall in the convertible are carried over...SOOOO GLAD TO SEE THIS>>>>

Second point, closer inspection of those risers in back of the seat, they are two pieces and at the base corrugated, so they must pop up.. look closely. Also notices unlike the coupe the vents on the rear quarter top are gone.

Much better looking than Coupe (but I'm a ragtop person). But, re: roll-over, seriously doubt any 'pop-up' feature will mean much in the context of track requirements. On BMWs, if you lift the inside wheels around a corner even slightly, they pop up. Then need to spend $$$ at dealer to have them reset.

I have BMWs and that does not happen to me, and even had the Mini Cooper and that did not happen...interesting post, has this actually happened to you? Been around BMW and Minis for years with the pop up system and never have experienced are heard of this, but like anything in a BMW it would be expensive to fix for sure....find this to be very interesting.

OMG, the base spoiler is worse than the C6 spoiler, which I never understood. That's the best they could do? What would be so wrong with designing the spoiler to be part of the body instead of a $1.50 piece of black plastic?

Slighty different angle but the C6 still looks pretty good.
