Why no Automatics?
Has anyone noticed that in all the current C7 displays that all of them are manual transmission cars? Wonder why? Is GM ashamed of its slushbox?

A.) Because you should buy a manual, and
B.) Because there is nothing new or exciting about the old 6L80E and reveal shows are supposed to display the new and exciting, in this case the 7-speed manual.

I've never driven a manual, don't know how to, and don't really care to learn either.
The last thing I'd want is to lose a street race because I didn't shift properly.
Hypothetically if the C7 did not have an auto option I would probably not buy it.

Not an automatic type guy. But, if I were I would wait to purchase a C7 until the eight speed auto is ready. Same thing happened with the '05. Those that waited got a better auto trans in '06. Of course, the majority of C7 buyers probably wouldn't know/or care about the difference.

Why buy a high tech sports car with an old fashion manual transmission?
Even Ferrari abandoned the floor mounted old school manual transmission years ago.

The whole string of "you should buy a manual" comments was largely in jest, we all understand why others choose automatics.
Aside from that, you don't get a manual for performance these days, you get it for the "hands-on" experience. Paddles are the future of performance, and the future is now.

At any rate, GM seems to think that the way to market a true sports car (not a drag racer) is to present it with a manual transmission until they get a better option.

Different people have different wants. I don't care about having a "hands on" experience. As an example I also don't care about the interior at all, I'd be happy with a C5 or C6 interior on a C7, so I'm happy that it's rumoured that most of the interior upgrades are optional as that lets me customize and save money where the option doesn't mean much to me. My wants in a Corvette are exotic exterior styling, fast acceleration, nice sounding exhaust (check), and ease of an automatic transmission.

With the electronic rev matching there really isn't much to learn besides the finesse to get going from a dead stop. The thing should practically drive itself.
