Default Steering wheel

I love the C7 design, inside and out.

However, I was surprised to see a round steering wheel instead of D bottom which seems to be the rage with new roll outs/concepts (Viper, NSX, etc.), as well as with aftermarket Corvette folks (Caravaggio, etc.).

And the discussion begins...now.

We want the square tail lights to be round and the round steering wheel to be a D...

Holding out for the C8

The car has a tilt wheel. You might need a D shape to get in and out if you are extra fat or too dumb to know if your hands are on the top or bottom. Besides that, GM likely wants a wheel that can be interchangeable with Chevrolet Cobalts and other low dollar stuff just like the C6 was. It would just confuse Cobalt buyers.

They will probably use the D shaped wheel with the higher performance models. Z06, ZR1

I was also surprised...the D shaped wheel is a much sportier looking option, to me. I was very happy to at least see that it was a smaller diameter though...that should make for a good feel on a track.

Good, good, keep discussing....at least it stops the whining about the tail lights (albeit one post still mentioned it).

BTW, round or D has nothing to do with fatness, but rather styling.

New generation Vettes usually pick up styling cues from what previous gen owners have done to their cars with the aftermarket (the C6 being a prime example).

Ferrari, Lambo, Audi, etc. use such styling cues. Since this gen is supposedly the "international flair" one, I am surprised they didn't follow suit.

A steering wheel that has the rim eccentric to the hub is functionally the same as a D shaped wheel. I prefer that approach as the grip is the same no matter where you grip the rim while turning the car.

Even our SRT8 charger has one...looks great too in that car.

Was hoping the C7 would have one for appearance reasons only, but it LOOKS like it'll be a great wheel on the track. Small diameter, thick leather and grippy....and that's very important, so I can't wait to take it out and rip on it!

A D steering wheel makes it easier to get in and out of the car.

A smaller steering wheel makes it easier to get in and out of the car, but also makes the steering feel "livelier". I'm glad they made that choice.

Remember we have only seen pre production versions. I'm sure some things will change. Only GM knows. There is about six months before the cars come down the line.

Think about the hideous wheel we had in 05! If you call a steering wheel a "the doughboy" you know it has problems.

I'm pretty sure the C7 designers said the steering wheel would remain unique to the Corvette. It does resemble a stingray after all...

Oh good god. You guys complain that the Corvette steering wheel was not unique to the Corvette. You complain that it is too big (bus like).

They give you one that is unique and smaller and now you complain that the steering WHEEL is not a "D" shape. WHEELS are ROUND. Maybe they should have a steering yolk, that would give you something that will let have TONS of room to get in and out, and it would be SUPER UNIQUE.

I think some of you would die if you didn't have something to to complain about no matter how trivial.

If you don't like the wheel buy something that does.

If this is what you are complaining about the C7 must be a fantastic car.

Steering wheels are the things of the past, you people should get on with the new technology!!!

C7 has aluminum chassis & engine, magnesium seat frames, electronic parking brake, fiber carbon hood and top, brushed aluminum & fiber carbon interior.

What better way for the C7 to attract these younger generation, then to do away with the outdated steering wheels that have been here forever since the automobile was invented. Get with the times and install drive by wire Joystick like in the Airbus A380.
