Default supercharger???

I know it is super early, but when do you think that someone will make a supercharger for the c7 vette?

GM has already made one.

If you're talking aftermarket, that may depend on how tough it is to change the programming.

As for an aftermarket company to have a superthingy ready for the LT1, I would guess that Callaway would be the first as they have a 25 year working relationship with GM. If GM is going to help anyone out with sticking a superthingy on the LT1, and then having the proper tune, etc, it will be Callaway.

Interesting topic. Will GM cooperate with Callaway immediately? I hope so. The original Callaway C4 competed with, and beat, that day's supercars. That was certainly a feather in Corvette's hat. Edelbrock, et al? I hope so. The qualty aftermarket high performance engineers/manufacturers bring vibrancy to the overall industry we are all enthusiasts of.

Gotta have the tune or nothing will work and, for a while at least, the ECM key won't just be handed out. Hopefully GM will work with the big boys I mentioned as well as others.

Why would GM spend millions to develop a ECM that near impossible to hack(at this time) and then just throw the keys to the ***** house to a bunch of horny men?

GM is tired of spending millions in warranty costs associated with hacked tunes, so they spend millions to prevent it.

I also suspect that the EPA has something to do with the Car companies making the car's operating parameters sealed.

GM isn't about to release the secret recipe to a third party company that will not put any money in their(GM) coffers. At least with Callaway, they have a 25 year working relationship and can get something back from that relationship.

Edelbrock would be included in those you don't think GM will share with? Or do you think they will negotiate a deal with them, and others, to have them put money in GM's pocket?

Now that is the 64$ question. I would guess less than 6 months
before you see aftermarket SC. I hope sooner.

If they are that hard to hack, I suspect we will see earlier generation LS motors dropped in so the boosted club can play. Basically folks with no budgetary constraints. I'm just going to make due with my C6 until GM offers a boosted C7.

Why would they give the keys to Edelbrock. Edelbrock is a competitor of sorts(crate engines). When Edelbrock sells an E-Force, do you believe they send a check to GM?

GM will have a superthingy along shortly and will make more money off selling it as a RPO package then they would ever receive from selling the ECU recipe to a bunch of aftermarket people.

GM will offer a roots style supercharger, or at the very least Callaway will.

For the rest of us, well just have to hope Vortech/Paxton/Procharger and the tuners involved, will crack the computer and get us onboard.

OK Joe, read the second sentence. I highlighted it in red for you. Not a trick question.

Full Function Aftermarket PCM's will be made if the OEM units prove to troublesome.

Callaway isn't the troublemaker. They don't install outlandish tunes, etc on their cars just to get ridiculous horsepower numbers.

GM knows that Callaway builds their cars to last 100,000+ miles with conservative tunes. While Edelbrock, and the others, might have a mild tune included with their units, they have no control over the shops that throw the car on a dyno and give it hell. No way GM can police all the various shops to make sure they only install safe tunes, so it's in GM's best interest to lock them all out, except the one shop they have a 25 year working relationship with.

That's fine and dandy, but I will be really disappointed if someone doesn't crack the code eventually. I do not care for roots style superchargers and won't be buying anything in that direction anytime soon. I will lose some interest in the C7 if the aftermarket doesn't figure it out.

^^ you must not drive one on a regular basis. i wouldn't have mine any other way for a 95% street car that sees more road racing than drag strips

What else can you tell about me?

And for road racing, I'd take a centrifical supercharger over a roots blower 100% of the time.

Heat soak and IAT's on a roots blower are horrible for a road course car. Hot air kills power. The centri blowers run a lot cooler.
