I know the Z51 has one that cools the diff and one that cools the transaxle. Does the Autmatic have this and can you get automatic as a Z51????
I would like a Z51, but automatic seems like a better idea at this point in my life.
Thanks
Gonzo
One vent is used to cool the automatic transmission regardless of trim level. Both vents are used with the Z51 option. And yes you can get the automatic with Z51.
This...working vents. If you order the base, I think only one side's vent really works.
Since GM has designed all those tacky black plastic vents on the car to be functional, does that mean a base C7 with auto, is going to be faster on one side vs the other side with a non functional vent or that the down force will be greater on one side of the car vs the side without the functional vent. Seems that if the C7 needs all those vents to make it stable at high speeds(vs the C6 Z06 and ZR1 without the vents), then the car must be very unstable if one side of the car has a greater down force then the opposite side of the car, and one side of the car slips through the air faster then the other side of the car.
The vents are functional on all stingrays, whether the heat exchangers for the diff and trans are there is a matter of z51/base selection. I also believe the fender vents are providing cooling air for the rear brakes, but I can't find a confirmation on this.

There are some earlier posts that said the rear vents are blocked off if not required.
If true that would mean that.....
both rear vents blocked off in a base car without an auto.
one rear vent blocked off in a base car with auto trans.
one rear vent blocked off in a Z51 car without an auto trans.
no rear vents blocked off in a Z51 car with an auto trans.

Joe, why all the anger?
Some people love tacky black plastic vents, and GM had determined that they are the people with money.
Yes, the car will go faster on one side, but it is the opposite side as the driver. So only if you are riding around with a beefed up passenger will the car go in circles.

Just think how much faster I'll be able to drive around Talladega(vs the slow *** 162 MPH in my C6 Z06) with the right side of the car going faster then the left side. No worries about hitting the wall. It will be like I'm on rails. Go C7. just like the NASCAR Cup cars. Shove that accelerator pedal to the floor an never let up, all the way around the track.
Bad thing is no 1/4 mile drags, as I won't be able to keep the car in it's lane, and will be thrown off the track.

Yup, the aero work should make it more stable than the C6 Z06 and ZR1. Good thing the engineers decided to make a point out of that. Hope you don't mind.
