Sure would be nice if the C7 had a D shaped steering wheel like the new SS sedan.
I was going to post the same thing. Interesting that the ss is using the ls3 not the lt1. I like the center piece if the steering wheel better as well. I know the c7s is going with the stingray shape but I think the ss with the vette emblem would look better.

Over abundance of engines I guess. Our local pd just took delivery of several of the patrol version. It is preferred over the Crown Vic.
IMO, the Corvette is better off without that. It's mostly just a gimmicky allusion to motorsport, once perhaps fashionable but now seems cliched as certain European marques have done it to death.

Ehhhh ........... The several forum vendors that sell them for the C6 are doing quite good.
It was talked about in a recent C&D article. The comment was that by going down to the smaller 14.2" wheel they determined that they didn't need the D shape. I can't find what diameter the wheel is in the SS but I wonder if it is a much larger size?

heh ...... After I made the mistake of showing the pictures of the SS interior to the s/o, they could put a joy stick in the C7. Guess which one she wants me to get ...................

I really liked the C6 type accessory wheel available from the Corvettemuseum, wish this was available for the C7!

Not saying GM would be foolish to offer it as an option; it would make them some good money. I wouldn't be surprised to see it on a mid-cycle refresh or on hi-po models. But I'm saying it's simply a marketing gimmick. The standard C7 doesn't need it, and IMO the interior looks better without it. I can fully understand that on a racecar with non-adjustable steering column, or where they're doing rapid driver changes, and the steering is only like 1 turn lock to lock (meaning the driver rarely if ever changes hand position), then yes, a flat-bottom wheel helps.
Those forum vendors don't do all of their business only with steering wheels.
So I really like the d-type look, but is it more of an updated fashion look, or is there an advantage to having a steering wheel like this? Never had a car with one, so was just wondering. I really like the new ss btw. I think it could have been more aggressively styled but would make a fun daily driver/sleeper car.
I can't comment on the C7's steering wheel, but he C6's steering wheel functions as if it were a D shape. The steering wheel's round outer rim is not concentric with the center hub, thus serves the same purpose as a D shape wheel, giving additional clearance at the bottom to the driver's legs when the front wheels are pointed straight ahead. I'm guessing that the C7's steering wheel is the same.

If I am correct, that is the very excellent, MCS company steering wheel, made by Mike Kirby and his company right there in Bowling Green. It really is a good design and well made.

With any luck, in short order they will have one for the 7.
I've driven a few cars with flat bottomed steering wheels and found them downright obnoxious. They're basically a big FU to anyone who practices shuffle steering. I'm sure they make sense on an open wheel race car which never sees more than 90 degrees of steering angle. On a road car, not so much.

It would not surprise me. Mike Kirby at MCS steering corp. is a very resourceful guy. And I would guess that being in Bowling Green doesn't hurt anything, either.
