Default C7 serial numbers

Hi, I have a bit of a dumb question, what serial numbers do thay use on the C7's that are already produced for testing, Detroit Auto show etc? If production doesn't actually start till some time in the summer is the first one off the line serial #00001, or would the one used for the Detroit show be #00001? What happens to the ones already "apparently" seen on the streets of Arizona according to another thread, and how are they numbered. I figured if there was an answer someone here would know, Thanks.

Production VIN #001 was sold at BJ shortly after the 1-13-13 reveal. It will be the first production car off the line this late summer/fall.

I have no idea what the numbering of the test cars is but I think they are generally tested over and over and eventually dismantled or destroyed.

I believe the mule and show cars have an X in the VIN preceding the 001, 002 and so on. Not 100% sure, but it seems I read that somewhere. They would not use the actual VIN #001 on through for all the mule and show cars as they will be destroyed once they are done with the show circuit and the testing.

At some point they will move to the "WD0" then "WD1" (RPO, not in the VIN) Pilot Cars that will ultimately (probably) be sold to the public. In most years those are built in April-May but that timing could be different with the C7 since actual production won't start 'till later in the year than usual.

Talon90 may chime in here with better info.

Default C-7 vin

I looked at the VIN number on a red C-7 being tested in Mesa, AZ. It had what appeared to be a standard 1G1 numbering system, but ended in EX. When I commented on this, the person from GM said that these pre-production cars had serial numbers all ending with EX. He indicated that the cars would eventually be crushed. The car I saw was red.

The car looks outstanding as one stands actually looking at it. The HUD is set up like the race cars, the dash is excellent, and ergonomics overall are a vast improvement. These cars were in the Mesa area for several weeks. Many members of the UOCC Corvette group saw the cars parked at a hotel. I believe the new Corvette will sell well. Some emblems, wheel centers, and other things were missing on these test cars.

Thanks for posting that about the "EX". That's what I was trying to remember, where it was located in the VIN. It's been a while since this discussion in 2004-2005 for the C6.
