Default Hatch / trunk capacity

Conspicuous by it's absence has been any reference by GM to the size of the 'hatch' or the trunk of the convertible! It was a big deal when the C5's came out and was played down a bit when the capacities were downsized slightly with the C6's.

There is no doubt in my mind that the C7 has less cargo capacity..... but how much less? We've had over a dozen new Corvettes dating back to the mid 60's and the C5 was clearly the benchmark when it came to packing for a 'roadtrip'. When we got our C6 convertible I found I could no longer take along my 'detail kit' and pail on our roadtrips. If the trunk on the new C7 is much smaller, my wife will have to send her stuff ahead via UPS.

Any 'real' information on capacities would be appreciated. I may have to go back to the hatchback but, hey, I think it looks better than the 'vert' anyway.....

I'm not so sure the C7 coupe will have less trunk capacity than the C6, but losing the cubbyholes is going to hurt regardless of how big the trunk is.

I thought C7 has one large cubby vs. the smaller ones of previous Vettes.

I'm curious as well. I know we will already loose one of the storage bins in the back because that's where the battery is at least for the Z51 model anyway maybe both but not sure. I had a C5 and I just got a C6 and I can't really notice any loss of space myself...

For whatever reason, GM is not releasing a lot of info like interior dimensions of trunks or hatch "cubes." That doesn't suprise me too much. After all, they're still running around showing cars that are not only called "pre-production" but are. Some have no interiors (Peterson Museum, per a viewer), clunky dash hardware at Geneva convertible "unveiling" (possibly, it IS production, but looks a bit "odd" for the overally higher quality of the interior), etc.

So, I guess we'll have to wait, until when, I don't know. I'm still wondering if there is a "specification" book, or order book that lists what exactly are the options for coupe and convertible. To date, no answer on that one.

As info comes out, a forum dealer will send us out the info directly from GM. I have a deposit down and as stuff comes out, he forwards it to us almost the same day. As soon as some of us find out the specs, we will share it on the forum for all to see....

Jim, you are right. At the meeting with some of the Corvette leaders prior to the opening of the Chicago Auto Show, they commented the C7 will have similar capacity to the C6. Now whether that translates to the same or slightly more or less, we'll have to wait and see.

Regards.

Hmmm, not happy with the plastic in the trunk. The carpet was a lot more versatile and durable. Harder to break/scratch by heavy objects banging around, or my bike. Not even sure from those pics if my bike will fit, and that would kill me.

Pictures are hard to judge for a size comparison.
But, the C7 trunk area seems to be a "bit" wider than the the C6 if you look at the left side of the drivers seat and the right side of the passenger seat of both cars.
Then,.. look at the wheel tubs in the C7 in relation to the C6, and the tubs sit further inward to the middle area on the c6.
What I like is the tie down hooks in the C7

Worried about storage? Buy a Suburban. Need room for gold clubs? Leave the wife at home and put them in the passenger seat.

The change in placement of the support rods make a big difference in usable space available IMO

Carpet simply is nothing more than a dust trap and a pita to keep clean.

Yep, never really looked at it up close until now. Between the support rods and wider opening on the C7, I think it will have more space AND a better look to it. The C5/C6 loose a lot of room because of where they chose to put the support for the targa top. The way the C7 looks, way way better IMO, anyway...
