Default Gear Ratios?

Does anybody know the gear ratios, final drive ratio and redline for the C7 with the Z51 package? I'm trying to figure out the top speed of each gear on this car on some online calculators, but I need this information. I can't find it anywhere.

I'm not much help here but the info has been on this site. I'm sure someone will chime in soon with a link. It might have been on the chev.com but I'm not sure. They had a couple of graphs.

The tranny ratios in the Z51 are a little shorter in all gears except 4th of course.

The diff. is the world famous 3:42 they have used for ever.

It's buried somewhere, but here's from a chart I have:
Stingray: 1st through 7th: 2.66, 1.78, 1.3, 1, .74, .5, .42. Final drive 3.42
Z51: 1st through 7th: 2.97, 2.07, 1.43, 1, .71, .57, .48. same final drive.
Z51 has you at about 4500 RPM's (+/- 100) when you change to the next gear.
Top speed should be in 5th gear, as you shift out of the 1:1 4th gear at almost 150mph.

The base tranny has a shorter 5th as well. Same for the c6.

okay awesome, thanks. About to punch the numbers in the calculator now. I believe the rear tire size is 285/30/20

The Z51 has you set to shift at 4500rpms!!!??? Is that a typo, or do you mean 6500 rpms? No way can 4500rpms be redline

I was trying to say that all the gears (except 4th ) are shorter in the 2014 Z51 than they are in the base 2014 tranny.

I was not comparing it to other generations.

*FIXED WITH CORRECT WHEEL SIZE OF 285/35R19*

Here are the speeds for the base stingray:

1st: 58

2nd: 87

3rd: 119

4th: 154

5th: 208

6th: 308

It seems to me the gearing in the base stingray might be better for top speed and 1/4 mile acceleration??? With the base gearing, you should be going through the traps at the top of 3rd instead the bottom of 4th which made lead to a better time, depending on shift speed also since there are less shifts to make.

Also, the top speed on the Z51 looks like it's gonna be 183 since that's the highest 5th gear will go at redline. I doubt it will still be able to accelerate in 6th with that 6th gear ratio. The 5th gear ratio in the base stingray looks like it will help the stingray pull up to about 190-195 or so with enough room.

I think it will turn better than 118 in the qtr. So do you hold it at rev limit or shift the Z51 earlier. ??? I vote for Z51.

What tire diameter are you using? And I doubt the Z51 will be slower through the 1/4 mile, it will accelerate harder in every one of it's shorter gears.

That depends what the car traps, but I wouldn't think holding it at the limiter would be beneficial.

I REALLY hope your right about the car trapping better than 118 in the quarter mile. I have my fingers crossed. I'll literally jump for joy and shout if it hits 120 or better. That's my hope

I put 285/30/20. That's the size I found on google. I understand the base model has smaller diameter wheels. 285/35R19 for the base stingray. I'll have to revise, one moment please

Fixed. Now 3rd gear tops out at 119mph.

Just crunched the numbers and I get the same results as you (well actually I get 182mph in 5th), so if those ratios are correct you're dead on. At any rate the car will be very fast, I'm not a top speed kind of person but I'd be more interested in the aerodynamics at those speeds than the gearing. Forgetting for a moment stock power levels and/or gearing, the C7 like every other remotely normal production car will ultimately by limited by aerodynamic stability.

I'm more interested in acceleration than top speed myself. Bragging rights would be cool, but there really isn't any place I'd be able to go that fast anyway. Unless I manage to get to the autobahn, of course.

Still, with 3rd gear topping out at 119 on the base stingray, I'm wondering which will be the faster car in the 1/4 mile. If the car has the power to trap above 119 mph, then I'm sure the Z51 will probably take the title. But then again, there is torque, EVERYWHERE!

If you take it to redline in 3rd it will pull strong in 4th. She's a torque monster. You'll see soon enough.
