From: Calgary, AB. There's a reason why white was the only color offered on every year Corvette. Proud Canadian German Jamaican!

I think if GM wants to build a cheaper Corvette then wtf cares it's not our company and if anyone doesn't like it they should go start their own company and build their own car and make only top end models, I think we should start yet another thread about a entry level Corvette and about the C7's rear end and all the color choices and the bhp and prices and blah, blah, blah......
I think it is a great idea. The Miata is the best selling roadster of all time. Why shouldn't GM cash in on the under 300 hp sports car market? The Boxster/Cayman didn't ruin Porsche, if anything they brought people into the Porsche family. BMW sold 1.8 million cars last year. What did they do to the Z4 base model? They put a 4 banger turbo in it that pumps out 240 hp. that new owners are very happy with.
I wish GM had the stones to put out a new, simple, less expensive Vette that attracted some of that market share away from Mazda, BMW, Porsche. Instead they continue to see increased hp as their way to salvation.
I can see this happening in later years but not initially. The marketing guys will do whatever it takes to make a buck with this car. If they have to bring out a cheaper model to recoup their development costs and keep sales rolling they will. Remember this is the same group that brought out the GS with parts they took from the Z06. They will do it again.
GM already offers an entry level Corvette that is stripped down and does not offer the options of other manufacturers......... it's called The Stingray.
With that said, the Stringray better have a cheap entry price, because that's the only reason to buy one over the competition that offers world class options like DCT, AWD, etc, etc.

You already posted up many times that your buying the 100 thousand dollar GTR..
Enjoy it..we get the fact that you prefer aWD DCT twin turbo v6 GTR....
Excellent choice for you.
I also happen to agree that the 50 grand base corvette is as low as is needed....

Personally, I wouldn't take DCT or AWD if you gave it to me. And yes, I have driven cars with both, quite a lot, actually.

Yes, we know, we know... if all you want is a DCT/AWD there are lots of great options.
What scares me is someone, someplace, made this remark. Are people within GM afraid that the Sting Ray's price will prohibit sales. If sales are below projections it wouldn't surprise me that a lower cost model would be offered. Think about the development cost alone, this product has to be profitable.

My take on this, is that no one actually made this remark. At least not directly about the Corvette. It may be based on the MotorTrend article that came out a bit ago, and we have a 20 or so page thread on that one. My guess is either;
A) they were so redfaced about printing and article that put a 5.3 L in the car, after the LT1 info was released, that they are trying to hedge a bet. Not likely though because this would dig the hole deeper.
B) That some one at GM may have mentioned them working on or discussing a smaller, entry level "Corvette type" sports car and the reporter misinterpreted this thinking they were talking about the Corvette. More likely.
C) There's just not alot of new info coming out, so the weekly's are trying to sell magazines. Most likely
