Default LT1 Harmonic Balancer

I asked this a while ago and nobody knew at the time. Will the LT1 still have a press fit harmonic balancer like the LS series engines that is prone to failure ? When will GM get with the better technology and key the crank end ?

Don't know what your picture is supposed to show. My guess is there is still a torque to yield bolt and washer but no key.

Unless the bump on the crank at about 1 o'clock is suppose to represent the key?

Another 'engineer'. Why don't you attempt to phrase a question like that to your engineering forum? Makes me sick.

IMHO, a very valid concern.

Nice pictures, but I have no idea what I'm supposed to be seeing.

And the answer is .... ?????

Since I'm not familiar with the details of this motor, is this a taper fit? The engines I've dealt with over the years have all used keys but they are also old

Well, the cutaway pic shows a bolt through the damper into the crankshaft, and the crankshaft pic shows a key, so I'd say the question has been answered and the issue has been resolved!

CrabbyJ - Thanks for posting!

Whats your problem ? Too much fiber in your diet ? You did not know the answer apparently.
Thanks to those that did.

Actually, he's a smart guy who knows a lot, with some inside knowledge. He's just not real tolerant of those who he perceives are not as smart as he is, me included. Don't take it personally; it's just his style of dealing with people. I'm sure he'd do well on a MENSA Forum......

I am an engineer and have inside knowledge as well. I just don't have much information about the LT1. Simple question deserves a simple answer not criticism. I would never make excuses for someones poor behaviour.

Good question. Even with the underdrive pulleys on a track car if one eliminates the flywheel and opts for the clutch pack the rapid acceleration of the engine makes one yearn for a good solid mount. I know of a crank or two that was ruined by trying to install an aftermarket key.
