Default Lease

Anyone have any thoughts on how well this car might lease out fairly loaded. American cars don't lease out well in the past.

As a guess....it should cost out around 55 percent of msrp over the 36 months...

No subsidizing for years to come...

Porsche boxster has a nice subsidized lease right now as sales are somewhat slow...
It's like 18 grand for the 3 years with low miles during the term...

Residual value and interest factors drive the cost of a lease. If I read you correctly you are saying the C7 would have a 45% three year residual which is very soft, especially for a brand new car. My gut would have it in the low to mid 50's. You are correct in that no subsidies will be on the table for quite some time, for sure it's a car to buy not lease!

As for the P car they are very strong resale products and that's half the battle, if as you say they are running aggressive programs now you are correct in that the deals would be good. Also keep in mind the sale price is the last factor, for every $1000 discount you'll save $30 per month on a 36 month lease!

It's been a while since I leased but overall costs should be 50 tp 55 percent of the msrp over the 36 months...as a best guess....

No msrp but guessing loaded well is 72 grand?

I'd suggest a thousand a month give or take a hundred for 36 months..tax and tags up front

If actual pricing hits April 25th then the supporting dealers here can better answer the question shortly

You're probably right there! Not sure they will be able to help this early with lease quotes yet, I'm sure ALG has not announced residuals yet and depending on who is writing the paper I'm sure it is too far away from the release to offer the cost of money or their own lease residuals.

$1k a month for loaded or a stripper? Either way that is too much $ for them IMO. C6s were leasing under $700 a month.

You're comparing a C6 to a C7? No subsidies and full list price in itself will rocket the payment, not to mention no lease support.

As I have gotten towards Retirement age I have looked at Leasing. I really have no desire to actually own any more new automobiles. The urge to mod seems to have left me. But since my Corvettes have sat thru the winter months I don't much care for paying for something that just sits there. I just don't see any Leasing Deals coming for the first 2 or 3 years. After the 2 to 3 year period, it will really boil down to how sales go on the new C7. Leasing deals have very rarely ever favored the consumer.

I've been mowing over getting a lease for the first 2-3 years and then buying next one after that. I'm worried about 1st year issues.

I'm right there with you, SCM. The one big advantage of a lease on this particular car at this particular time is that the residual value is locked in up front. If the first year production run turns out to have terrible problems that are well publicized, the resale or trade in value could significantly decrease by the time you want to replace it with a newer, more "stable" model. I see a 24-month lease as a way to hedge against that possibility. I think I might trade off the monthly expenditure against the assurance of being able to get out of that early car cleanly and easily.

After that, I'm right back to my "buy and hold" philosophy that still has me in my well-amortized 13-year-old C5!

I didn't think about that. That's really a great way to look at it.

Do you know if GM does the lease to buy thing so that at the end of the lease you get a better deal on buying the car back if you still want it?

They should have that option in place, but of course we have no real knowledge at this point.

Has anyone here ever leased a 'Vette from a forum dealer out of state and if so, how difficult was the process? Can you get the car delivered and what happens at the end of the lease when you have to return it if you don't want to drive hundreds or thousands of miles away?

Lease payments on these cars will be brutal for the 1st year or two. A "good" lease payment comes from an invoice price further reduced by factory price reductions. Then there are various lease support programs which reduce the interest rate or money factor and a few other accounting tricks that can be employed. You will see none of that for the initial run of C7s.

Been thinking about doing this as well. Will have to wait and see what the residual and money factor will be and compare it to a purchase.

It s a challenge to me to lease because most vette drivers never use the allotted miles. If they where to give a credit on unused miles like they do for excess miles maybe that would make a little more sense.
