I think it would have been better stated to say that Corvette's taking aim at the 911. The base Corvette outperforms a Cayman or Boxster. Always has. To get Corvette level of sheer track performance, you have to get at least a 911 4S, which is FAR more expensive than a Corvette. The current ZO6s and ZR1s took aim at the higher performance 911 Turbo, GT3 and GT2 cars. Chevrolet doesn't have a car to compete specifically with the Gayman or Boxster.

1. They are the models attracting younger buyers
2. They are the closest in price to the C7
3. They combined outsell the 911 by miles
4. They will both be outperformed by the C7 - based upon conjecture
5. Chevy can tagert the 911 and it's variants with the next performance variants of the C7 i.e. ZO6 or ZR1 or whatever
So they are going after the highest volume sales cars, with the youngest buyers, with one bullet - price and performance advantage.

Well, Porsche needs a girder frame and a fiberglass bodywork like the Corvette. A Porsche with a folded sheet-metal unibody is nothing more than a street car.
The Corvette needs more efficient engines like the Porsche.
In fact look at these two engines:
Mustang GT
5.0 V8, 420 HP
Jaguar F-Type
5.0 Supercharged V8, 495 HP
Now let's look at roof heights:
Lamborghini Gallardo, 45.9"
Ferrari 458, 47.8"
Lotus Evora, 48.1"
C7 Corvette, 48.8"
SRT Viper, 49.1"
Audi R8, 49.3"
Porsche Cayman, 50.9"
Jaguar F-Type, 51"
Porsche 911, 51.3"
Then chassis construction:
Corvette and Evora, fiberglass body on frame
Gallardo, 458, and R8, metal body rivited to frame
Porsche and Jaguar, folded metal unibody
Viper, something with a frame
Then someone else go get the power-to-weight ratios
.
The Corvette needs more efficient engines like the Porsche.

The concept is great but the dealer experience between the two would have to be tightened. You walk into a Porsche dealer and a Chevy dealer and you'll think you're on two different planets.
Porsche has a wider line of products also. Chevy would need a Corvette SUV and a Corvette 2 door to really compete. I don't see that happening.
I can also see the Vette being bought by more men and fewer women than the Porsche.
To me, if the Vette is a can of cold beer, the Porsche is a glass of red wine. You can drink them both and they will both give you a buzz but you won't be taking any Chateau Rothschild to a Football game or a Bud Lite to the Opera.

Melting Slicks
I have owned 25 vettes from all 6 generations and never have owned a Porsche but after seeing the new 2013 Porsche Boxter S interior and the C7 interior I find myself leaning towards the Boxter, very tastefully done.

Burning Brakes
Nothing personal, BUT, this doesn't rock at all. Everything is at right angles and straight lines. Doesn't even look like a sports car, more like a caddy if you ask me. In fact my C6 interior looks far superior to this P car. If you want luxury buy a Rolls. P cars aren't it my friend....

Just ask yourself this question? Which car would you want to own when the factory warranty runs out? The winner is the Corvette. Most C5/C6 cars are put gas in and drive.
