Software gurus tried to jailbreak the C6 nav, and nobody could touch it..
Didn't realize there was that much interest in it I guess I should have done it LOL (I do this for the much more complicated radios)
The question becomes do you like CUE? If the answer is yes then you'll like the Mylink in the Vette; its EXACTLY the same system without the haptic feedback that the Caddy has. GM's new infotainment architecture utilizes an HMI module to run everything in all the vehicles the only thing they change is the skin and options being turned on or off. I had my XTS looking like a Chevy for a day which really confused people
This is not a sales pitch in any way but my company already offers unlocking services for the 13+ GM HMI modules (And all other Global A radios) I can do anything I want while driving.
The API is cool but the apps all have to be approved/signed to run on a production unit no having fun making our own toys without GM approving them

Reason: Spelling fail!

I got corrected for saying that. You do it so much better..

LOL! I would hope not, its true! It makes sense though a common module to rule them all. You can change screen size/features and spread the cost out over all of the vehicles that use it rather than building individual radios for each platform.
Another cool tidbit is the system CAN play a myriad of different movie file formats however many of them are turned off in the software.
If the Nav system is at all comparable with the Nissan/Infiniti Nav, you'll be able to set a destination with voice command while you're driving.
They should let you type a destination as well. Many of us use the passenger seat for something other than holding race tires. If they are really scared of the lawyers then they could use the passenger airbag sensor to determine if someone is in the seat and then allow typing. Of course then I'd just be driving with the race tires in the seat all the time in order to trick the sensor into allowing it.
My GTI allows you to type while driving. Of course you first need to type the "OK" agreeing that it isn't advised. But hey, if we have to add extra typing in order to tell you that excessive typing is bad, well, so be it.

Honestly, I like that you cannot type when in motion. It forces you to pull over where it's safe to type. I find it hard to believe anyone is against this kind of safety feature. Especially when it's illegal to text and drive in lots of states (and gaining ground in more).
If you cannot verbally set your destination, you are probably driving too fast to be typing it.
Do you think you can find a way to unlock the nav.so you can program a destination while driving?
Already done Mine has all of the lockouts removed including the file types so you can play movies LOL I have had issues with doing verbal destinations its just too difficult sometimes even when its a simple well known POI.

Yep. That's how it works. (I'm surprised, though, and how it interprets my voice sometimes and even though my wife OR I have tried, it fails to understand some voice names).
Oddly enough, as bad as her NAV is in her Cooper S, it WILL allow you to set a destination while driving. I suspect that is because it has a little multi-directional joystick thingy between the seats instead of having to reach "over" to the screen itself.

Race tires AND seat belt buckled...
But seriously, I think this should remove car makers from legal worry IF:
(1) the sensor in the passenger seat indicates a passenger is there;
(2) the passenger seat belt is fastened and enough of the length is pulled out to indicate it is around a human and not just merely buckled;
(3) and if "YES" is entered to either indicate the passenger is doing the typing or that the driver is doing the typing and understands the dangers.
The big problem for me is getting a restaurant. Driving down the interstate you can not get my Infiniti GPS to list more then 6. It will not scroll. My Garmin will. Gas stations and restaurants while you are moving is a problem. So I use the Garmin for what the factory will not do.

Hmmm, not sure I've ever tried restaurants in my Z. I CAN testify to MANY screens of "Department Store" when looking at that category. And "Leisure" and several others. But I can't remember having searched for a restaurant.

Thats basically EXACTLY how CUE handles it, the C7 will as well My hang up is when you get alerts that say "Hey you are low on fuel here are the closest stations and prices" and you cant scroll because of speed lockouts. Thats where the value of the unlocking programming lies well that and playing movies LOL

well you're "kind or" wrong actually. THe software is really really ancient and barbaric so people had to go through back door methods to jailbreak the C6 nav. This method works awesome!
So with that being said, the C7 navagation will have openly running API's so developers can jailbreak it with more standard methods. After a few years, it will just be a running PC and you wilil be able to do what you want with it. It's your car at the end of the day

Yeah, that reminder crap would get old.
On my Z NAV, it's (slightly) irritating to have it tell me every time I start the car that I have a range of xx miles (less than 50). I can see where your example would get old--FAST !

Yup had it happen this morning (different car I havent fixed yet LOL) Said "Please Refuel Soon" Showed me a list of stations and gas prices but when I went to scroll down its like "Not available while the vehicle is moving" So you are going to show me a list I cant use LOL
