I have been driving a C5 with a four speed automatic and an LS3 which has some work. The darn thing has so much torque that another gear would be questionable. I think in a drag race the 4 speed automatic would be just as fast as6 if not quicker. In road racing the 6 speed may have an edge but shifting gears does alter the cars handling. Shifting gears in the middle of a corner etc, as for the 8 speed in my opinion, like the 7 speed standard shift, it is more of a marketing deal. If Porsche has 7 we better have seven, with monster torque engines Corvette does not need a bunch of gears.
I respect those who disagree. It just is experience speaking on my part.
For the drag strip the fastest auto is an old worked over two speed powerglide
This threads subject is part of the reason why I call the new car the C6.5. Let the tap dancing by GM continue. By the way the new 2014 pickup truck still hasd the old 6 speed auto trans as well. Write ups noted the old trans and stated that the 8 speed will be welcome which will boost milage which is what it is all about going forward
The 8 speed automatic will be great. I would guess a tenth or two faster through the quarter mile. Passing acceleration might be a bit quicker because of the available gear spread...
Really none of this is important going from 6 speed automatic to 8 speed. It will be for marketing and for 1 or 2 more mpg s.
I'd still order the 7 speed rev matching manual or a DCT over the automatic but it won't be for superior performance...it would just be for the fun of it.
Not to mention that you still lose acceleration time in shifts... More shifts = more time lost that could be used for accelerating.
Exactly, unnecessary shifting with a wide powerband. The Top Gear video says it all when Jeremy Clarkson while C6 ZO6 was stationary chugged off the line in 5th gear all the way up to 180. ALL IN ONE GEAR !!!! This car doesn't need all those unnecessary gears. If Corvette does a DCT in their new ZO6/ZR1, I could see only a 6 speed being necessary. The kind of torque these bigger motors are going to have will be epic.
I expect to see an 8 speed auto in model year 2015 or 2016.
I agree and I think it will be stronger so they can offer it in at least the Z06 version of the C7. They will sell loads of them at a huge premium to people who would otherwise buy an auto in the base car for much less $$$.

This new c7 is going to tear up the track!
The new 7 speed manual is the only way to order this car. The A6 is an old compromised transmission and has no place in a car like this.
Somebody who calls the new Stingray 6.5 is just a stir stick. It is, in my opinion, a much newer car then the c6 was to the C5. A stir stick is a person who stirs up contraversey then sits back and watches the result of their efforts.
I would tell this €£¥~< #€|£ what I really think about him but I have been warned by the powers that be in Forum not to do that.
Bill17601 Other responses to my post are: JerriVette says he wants a 7 speed manual to DCT. Corvette doesn't have a DCT or an 8 speed auto trans. He also says the 8 speed will offer 1 to 2 mpg increase. In these days, that is big. I will take that increase instead of any drag strip performance improvement. 98 percent of new Corvettes never see a drag strip. Mine never did.

As I have said as I stir the pot, that is why I seen this car a C6.5. Also no all wheel drive, no turbo V6 mid engine, no hybrid. The C6.5 is way behind and isn't even on the showroom floor.
It is what it is, Bill. I am not the only one pointing out these flaws.

Since when did having a turbocharged V6 become the end all be all, the yardstick by which all others are measured, for world class performance/sports cars?
Ferrari 458, F12 and California don't have turbo V6s, AWD or hybrid either so they too must be behind the times I suppose?
Does your Z3.4 have a turbo V6 and/or AWD?
LS1LT1 I responded to you the other day to respond to your comment about my Z4. FYI I traded it for a 2014 Boxster Silver over Carrera Red Natural leather. NAV--BOSE, the works. I put my money where my mouth is. I paid $4,000 extra for the red interior with natural leather. I spend my money on a car that is better made and offers top quality. I have no need for 505 or 638 hp. The Bosxster has great handling, and is very comfortable.
And it cost me $10,000 less than a 2013 C6 GS convertible. I haven't been to a drag strip since I was in High School. So juvenile. I would rather drive over Independence Pass to Aspen for lunch.

Oh My My, a trip in your cutesy little Boxster to do lunch. Do you have your nails manicured while you are there also.
Sounds to me like a trip to the drag strip in real mans car might do you some good Pal.
I support those who have a different opinion then others on the Forum. I would hope that they state their case in a mature manner. That does not include name calling and insulting the C6 or the C7 etc. calling them a different name turns people off from the message. If an argument does not gain acceptance and in fact stirs the others on the forum it is, in my opinion, is an exercise in futility.

So now he's moved from a Z3.4 to a 914-6 V:2.0............
Anybody can make up silly names, be it for BMWs, Porsches, or Corvettes. The longer he does it the more he shows his true character.
I'm pretty sure he'll never stop.................

I support what you are saying but the usual way of doing this is to include the offenders quote. There is so much insulting in this one thread I am having trouble deciding who you are talking about.
The LT1 is such a torque monster and hp producer I believe the acceleration of the 6 speed automatic will be within a tenth of a second to the 8 speed automatic.
In most enthusiasts hands the 6 speed automatic will be as fast as the 7 speed rev matching manual.
Having a DCT is just a personal preference but it's not a deal killer for me. The 7 speed manual with rev matching and launch control will be fun as well.
All great choices dependent on what the buyers are looking for.
JMO and good to hear the guy who always critizes corvettes moved from a BMW z4 to a boxster s..
It's a pretty car for sure. Best of luck with it.
I do find your continued negative presence on corvette forum intriguing to be kind.
Thanks for your unique comments although 99 % of us disagree ....
Hope you enjoy your stardom in critizing corvettes on a corvette forum.

Juvenile??? That's because racing is for men not for a Puss!!!

Do you have to hold someone's hand before you walk across the street?
