My Stingray is going to be my new daily driver -- ~30+ miles each way to work and back. The freeways here in Northern Cal aren't in great shape on some of the parts of my commute. One of the options I'm toying with is the Magnetic Selective Ride.
Now, I'm really trying to keep costs down. I'm already at ~$65k after z51, 2LT, NPP (exhaust), FE4 (mag suspension), caliper coloring, black wheels, 6-speed automatic. I wanted the carbon fiber roof but dropped that as it saved a ton of cash and was something I didn't need.
So the big question is this. My car will spend 98% of its time on the street, 75% of that being hilly and somewhat rugged freeway. HOWEVER, because I live close to Laguna Seca and a couple other fun tracks, I hope to track my car at least 2-3 times a year. Therefore, this car WILL be performing at least part of the time.
With that said, given that I'll be on the streets doing 75mph or less for the vast majority of the time with this car, is $1800 worth it or FE4?
Imho one of the best options you can get. This 4th gen MSRC can make the car ride like a caddy when you want and turn to track mode, you are already spending 65k, dont skimp on that option, good luck
I'm live in a similar location, with a similar commute, and am strongly considering the C7. I also do several track days per year, and will definitely be getting the Z51 with Mag Shocks if I end up going for the C7. In every review of the C6 I've read, not to mention the Camaro reviews, the Mag Shocks are always very highly praised. Whether it's an article comparing the ZR1 to the new Viper, or the Camaro ZL1 to the Ford Mustang GT500, those mag shocks seem to really turn the car into a great track car as well as a great daily driver.
Given the relatively low price, I would not give them up. I'd drop the colored calipers and 6A tranny in favor of the mag shocks if I was forced to choose.
Having it on my last 2 Vettes 2007 & currently 2013 (F55) i can say it is absolutely well worth the $$, and we have some beat up roads here in NJ after the winter rips them up.

Ive been so torn on getting the mag ride, mostly because I have never owned a performance car that i didn't swap the suspension out for something a bit more performance oriented. I think i will end up going with the MSRC, in the end I may swap out for a coil over conversion one day, but I will see how the MSRC behaves on tracks before i pull the trigger on some nice Penske coilovers.
Back around 2005 most folks on the forum were excited about the Z51 option! I ended up buying used 2005 Z51 with 2k miles on it!
The Z51 back then came with GY tires that would need replacing around 17k miles even when driving with care!
It may have been a good track car but was Not for me for DD!
In 2008 I ordered cpe with the F55 Mag ride control! It was much better & the tires lasted for over 30k miles!
When the tires needed replacing, I went with Michelin Sport Plus ZP's! Had I know how much difference the Michelins made I would have put them on the first day i got from the Museum!!
Now have ordered the Z51 withe the MRC!! Now comes standard with the Michelins!! Should be great!!
My daily driver since new is a 2008 c6 z51...it's a great ride still no question I will get the z51 with MRC next time around in the c7.
I believe the MRC z51 is the most important options for a cool daily driver. You can drop any option and it would still make getting MRC as a primary focal point of the c7 design.
My advice is don't save money with regards to MRC.....it's amazing technology...even more advanced than what deco sells to Ferrari and a major contributor to the CTS v performance and ride balance.
In my opinion. Drop the NPP. Very little to gain for that amount of money. Get the FE4. If you decide in a year or two you want the exhaust buy the after market units. Just as good same result as factory.

Just an FYI, there can be some quirky issues associated with that changeover. Maybe the C7 will be different but I remember guys who did this with the C6 had issues because the electronics and sensors of the MSRC needed to be 'tricked' into thinking those shocks were still there. I never did this but you might want to search into the specifics over on C6 Forum before you commit to MSRC if you intend to change it over. Even then, the C7 may be different.
In the end it may be easier/cheaper in the long run to NOT get the MSRC if you want to change to coilovers.
Thank you for asking the question again, since you saved me from doing it
I am considering the FE4 as well, but, I don't have hills, bumps, and windy roads, and I won't be tracking the car.
I've had this option on previous vettes and never felt the difference.
Having said that, my thoughts were that this option would only only help to attract a buyer if/when I were to sell the car in the future for a newer one.
I have PM'ed a few members in this thread, and appreciate your thoughts

Yep.
Unless you are the type to drive your Vette only to church on Sundays.. I dont understand why people will pay for the NPP option, but wont pay for the FE4 option. There are lots of quality aftermarket bolt on exhaust systems that are easy to install, sound better and dont have on/off switched sound of the NPP. I'll take Corsa over NPP every single time.. even if NPP is cheaper and factory installed.

Yep.
It gives a double benefit. The street ride will be softer than the standard setup. The performance/track ride will be firmer than the standard setup. Actually make that a triple benefit as it includes the 5-selector driving **** to adjust 12 different settings on the car for any situation you'd drive it in. Its literally a win-win-win. This is the same technology that Ferrari copies from GM and pays royalties to GM for using. Just think about that for a second. If its good enough for Ferrari.. its good enough for you. The price is a no brainer.

MSRC does not only affect harshness and stiffness. It is actual active suspension. It adjusts the shock fluid viscosity and damper rate at each corner individually in reaction to the road.

I would get the Mag Shocks, but make sure your Dealer removes the plastic shipping collars from each one. When I got my 2003 with the 50th Anniversary Package, My Dealer didn't know the collars were on the shocks. I drove it over a 1,000 miles before I discovered them. The ride was horrible and there was no difference when switching from one mode to another! The Dealer had received the Service Advisory to remove the collars, but he hadn't read it! When they were removed the shocks worked great!
