Default targa top

Hi Guys,

silly question here but it'll be first time owning the corvette and would like to find out if anyone can confirm that the targa top of the C7, when removed, will fit into the trunk of the car?

If yes, will there be any usable space left with the roof stowed away?

Lastly, does frequent removal of the targa top compromise the weather seal and lead to leaks?

Thanks!

Yes it locks into place in the rear
Some usable space in the C6 probably the same in C7
No leaks or compromise of seals in C6 assume same for C7

The C7's top does fit in the trunk of the car and like the C6, you can put items, grocery's etc. underneath the top when it's locked down in the back. As far as weather seal leaks etc, I can speak for the C5's and C6's as I've had both with targa tops and no leaks ever...

Yes, it fits in the trunk.
Yes, there is still substantial usable space.
No, weather seal should be of no concern

I currently own a C6 coupe. The targa top allows an open air experience without the extra expense of a convertible. However a targa isn't perfect. The rear structure/window detracts from the experience. The targa top is subject to act like a sail in the wind. I have driven with the top off during a rain storm because the wind speed wouldn't allow installation of the roof. Drive fast and the rain goes over the opening.

Thanks for the replies! I come from the world of convertibles and so would love to take the targa top off as often as I can! Hope to get the car in time to enjoy the change of colors in fall.

I live with the roof off all summer long. I like the security of a targa in the winter, the lower cost to purchase and the wonderful open air experience of the targa

I used to only buy convertibles but since the c5 I've been hooked on targas

Best of luck

Given that, you should test whether removing/installing a C6 Transparent Targa Top is easy for you to handle. It is the same weight as the transparent targa top on the C7. The Carbon Fiber Targa Tops on the C7 are lighter than the painted tops on the C6 and should be a little easier to handle if that is an issue for you personally.

That's a good point! I certainly hope that removing and placing back the roof will be a one-man operation... i'm going for the base CF roof for the weight savings and lower CG on track days and living in manhattan, there just isn't spare room for me to store an extra roof

It's a one-lady operation. One of the models at one of the auto shows did it.

That might be true indoors, but a gust of wind can quickly give a person some problems. The top is light, but is awkward to handle from side.

I handle mine outdoors without any problems (and it is often windy in Texas). I believe the C7 carbon fiber is several pounds lighter than the C6, so it will be even easier to handle. A bigger problem is the panel being extremely hot after sitting in the sun. I keep a set of gloves in my center console for that reason.

Not in the glove compartment? You could have been the first person in history to actually fulfill its named purpose!

Center console because I can reach it from outside the car from either side. I have the ODBII plugin (forget what it is called) that gives me remote express down of the windows from my fob. So, when I get to the car I can reach in, grab the gloves and start unlatching the top, etc. Glove box would require starting from the passenger side.

The regular (non-transparent) top on the C6 weights 24 pounds. The carbon fiber C7 top (either version) weight 16 pounds. No figure has yet been given on the weight of the C7's transparent top.
