I wonder if the rear camera can be "active" while driving. My neighbors Tesla has a rear view camera that works while you are driving. Very weird Vertigo type sensation. Didnt really like it, but the option is intriguing with the somewhat limited view out the rear of the C7.
I don't know for sure, but I'd imagine that video/data recording package will record what's behind you too. It's possible it can be turned on while driving.
The side mirrors can be replaced with small camera lenses and then the car can be aerodynamically designed without the mirrors.
The mirrors increase vehicle drag by disrupting air flow over the bodywork.
But this in not likely to be put together and so I would like the touch screen, the navigation system, the rear view camera, and several other items to be a single option and then the car have a lower base price
.
I have a rear view cam and aftermarket headunit on my C6 Z06. I use the cam when I pull into the garage so that I never pull to far forward as I have a freezer infront of where I park in my garage.. Once I see the line (through the cam) in the concrete, I am in just right.
OP,
I've wondered the same thing for the above reason.

On my 13' 3500HD and my 12' Volt the camera stays on until you reach 5MPH forward (or something like that) so that shouldn't be a issue if that's the propose.
But that's to see the competition? Is that why OP is asking?
What's the use on the street?
A very minor issue, but I'd use it to know when the rear of my vehicle has cleared the rear most line of pull through parking spaces. Now I drive a bit too far, and then use reverse to position the car. Admittedly I'm getting just a tad nit picky!

They could use cameras instead of rear view mirrors now, but US regulations require the rear view mirrors. I think they are trying to get those regulations changed.
