It was discussed at The Bash that the seat would have to be a lot bulkier if they integrated the side airbags. It was decided to use the pod system and keep the seatback much trimmer. I think there will be aftermarket seats that develop attachment points, so you can use a C7 airbag. Even the competition seat looks like it weighs 40 or more pounds. Power adjusters, heavy steel mounting hardware, and air pumps will all add up. I know Chevrolet talks about the use of magnesium in the frame, but then they hang a bunch of other crap on the seat. I've convinced myself to go aftermarket, rather than buy the competition seat from GM.
