Default C7 Convertible

I received an e-mail advertisement the other day that said the C7 convertible was here. I replied to the e-mail that I had asked dealers and they had no idea when the convertible would be available. Chevrolet was pleasant in their response but were vague. They said that production would begin toward the end of the third quarter and it would be 2 to 3 months after that when it would be in dealerships. I am amazed that Corvette would not be ready to produce a convertible and willing to be vague about it. Corvette buyers are limited in number and I would think that exact information would be out for them to see. I asked when information as to top color, etc. would be out for the public to see and once again a vague response. I would appreciate any information that anyone has as to the 2014 or is it 2015 convertible. Thanks!

I'm very interested in the vert, but because of the delay in production, will likely just wait for the 2015 model. I've read that it would be January before the first Verts would show up at dealers. I'm not going to order until I test drive the coupe. Especially want to confirm the comfort of the seats..... SJ

Some people refer to the targa top as a "convertible"-- therefore the confusion. However, a removable roof is not a true convertible.

The true convertibles won't show up until the early spring of 2014. Production might start in late Jan or Feb.

According to the GM people at the 60th Celebration at the NCM, production of the verts will begin in the 4th qt of 2013. Don't expect much delay as by then the bugs will be works out of the assembly line that are slowing the deliveries of the coupes. I look for coupes to start headed out of the plant by the end of July assuming no issues that are found that would require a recall at the retail level.

There was no confusion on my part. The ad I got by e-mail had a picture of the convertible (real convertible) and I am somewhat concerned that Chevrolet would send out such an ad. I don't want a Viper or a car that is not truly a sports car which I believe should be a true convertible. I owned a 2001 with a removable top (targa) and was so glad to trade it in. It ain't a corvette unless the top will come down in my opinion.

RDBDDS A targa top is not a convertible by anybody's description. The convertible top won't creak like the targa top. Stick to your goal of buying a true convertible. The convertible looks 10 times better than the coupe.

I totally agree with you. I'm concerned that Chevrolet seems unconcerned that we who want a convertible don't really count. I bought my first corvette in 1966 (a '63) and I hate to admit I might consider some other sports car with how this is being handled! If more specific information isn't released soon about the convertible, I believe they will lose customers.

I am assuming you are new to Corvettes. The coupe was released first in both the C5 (the coupe in 1997, the convertible in 1998) and the C6 (coupes appeared at dealers in August 2004, convertibles in January/February 2005, both were 2005 models). Coupes outsell convertibles handily and this is the reason that the C7 coupe will appear first (by about 6 months).

The convertible will be a 2014 model. Top colors have been out for some time.

As Zym. has pointed out, there is a wealth of information ON THIS website. Maybe it should be elsewhere, and maybe it is. But RDB, you are here now, and all you have to do is look back thru some of C7 General's posts and threads to find a huge amount of info on the convertible. True, not as much as the coupe which is already being ordered, but a lot.

You can also pick up a phone and call CF dealers who are quite knowledgeable about the car. They are all over this forum as well as C6 and others so I'm sure you can find them. The schedule is not really that vague since the car is not even in production yet. Good luck with it, and if you go to another make, well, good luck there, too.
