Didn't pay a gas guzzler tax on my 2009 Z06(purchased in July 2008) either, but a friend did pay a gas guzzler tax on his 2009 ZR1(purchased in summer of 2008)

I didn't buy my Z06 for great gas mileage, but I have absolutely no problems accepting it. Better things to spend my money on than gasoline, when on a cruise.

Plus, when I want to hammer it, I have stunning performance. Best of both worlds. If I had the 7 speed from the C7 with it's .42:1 seventh gear, my mileage would have been around 1 MPG better average.
Beautiful ride near the Falls, and a beautiful place.

Agreed on the fuel economy, it's not a bad thing but not a reason to noy buy either.

Your comment about the C7 extra gear is interesting, how many rpm's do you think will drop when lugging along at 70-75mph in 7th?

Ron I made the best paper triangular footballs we all kicked field goals with in the back of the class room.

Speed limit on I-70 across Kansas and Colorado is 75 MPH. Cruising at 79 MPH, is 1700 RPM with the Z06's .5:1 6th gear. With the 7 speed's .42:1 7th gear, the RPM would drop to 1430. The torque of the LS7 at that low RPM is high enough to not cause lugging.

That same 1430 RPM is equal to the current Z06's sixth speed at 66 MPH.

So if I understand the LS7 would drop 270 rpm's if it had the C7's extra gear at .42:1 ratio and get an extra 1 mpg? It doesn't seem as if the 7th gear will play a big part in the economy, the AFM and DI seem to be the big players for the epa, correct?

That's the way I see it. I'm guessing that the 7th gear amount to ~25% of the gas mileage improvement(highway).

When GM changed the gear ratios in the ZR1, at 75 MPH the RPM's dropped 550 in 6th gear, and the EPA highway number went from 20 MPG to 21 MPG.

If people are worried about fuel economy in a sports car, they should skip it and buy a Prius.

If you can't, I'll stick with my Z06 and it's great 28-29 MPG highway gas mileage.

So, for those of us that actually enjoy going 300+ miles on a tank of gas. Those that drive to the track, then on the track, and then back home or rockin some twisties on a weekend. I give you guys the big

Corvette is the best middle ground of everything. Mileage, Power, Cost of Ownership, Storage capacity, etc, etc, etc... As mentioned before, pretty much EVERYTHING got better with the C7.

Still surprised that so many Corvette owners have managed to actually move out from living with their parents with their bad attitudes. If my son whined like some of the people on this forum, it would be off to military school with him in a heartbeat.

Nobody on the Forum is "worried" about fuel economy. They are paying $50,000 plus. What the topic is about is the engineering it takes to produce a car with 455 HP that gets 30 miles to the gallon. THAT is the amazing thing. When Corvette owners talk about what their car got as mileage on a trip it is to brag that they can go 175 MPH and also get 30 MPG. ( not at the same time, of course). Extrapolate that with a Prius that gets 50 MPG and runs out of steam at 80 mph.

The proof is in the engeneering.

I went to the Camaro forum to see what they are saying about AFM.
It does not look promising. I hope they remove it or have a way to disable on the 2015 C7 if it is bad as the Camaro guys say.

For manual transmission cars, just don't use Eco mode. Not sure what modes use AFM on the autos.

I lived in Co Springs for about 5 months in the early '70s and really would like to go to the top of Pikes Peak with my Vette. Maybe some day...

Paved all the way to the top now. Parking lot at the top is still gravel. Very enjoyable drive. Just as we were getting close to the top, a C-130 flew by at slightly lower altitude and you could clearly see the pilot. That was neat.

I could never find the time to wax my car on a weekly basis.
