Default C7 hack theft

Just read an article in the paper that some guys in Vegas demonstrated that they could hack a ricer and drive away remotely using a game controller. They used the OBD port.

Any comments if this is applicable to the C7 and what can be done to prevent this or any other hacking for stealing purposes.

Not knowing what they did nor how they did it makes it virtually imposible to determine if this is something that they can do with the Corvette.

Link to article, additional details?

Understanding how difficult it is to steal a C6 other than yanking it up on to a flatbed makes me believe that we are still years away from anyone just Nintendoing the C7 away from our driveways.

They would have to hack the fob, not the car itself. The car has an ignition disable device that prevents the engine from firing if a correctly programmed fob is not used. No fob, no spark

If its the one I'm thinking of, it is quite involved to "hack" the vehicle. Certainly not a "hop in, plug in, and drive off" affair.

Default "Advanced Theft Deterent"

The 2LT and 3LT packages say they have the "Advanced Theft Deterent" system. Does anyone know how that would differ from the 1LT theft deterent system - other than the 1LT not being "advanced"???
Gracias....

Thanks Rick.

OP, well that's a far cry from what you described. They didn't hop in, hack the car and "drive away with a video game controller".

They demonstrated that, from inside the car's network, they could gain access to and control certain functions. Onstar has had access to these same system and sensors.

The secret is in preventing outsiders from gaining access to the systems and sensors.

I don't think that we have a lot to worry about in the near term as there are several milestones that need to happen in sequence for someone to gain outside access to the car. They would need a way in to the network (cellular attack and need to know the address of the system) or a virus like file inserted via the smartphone or a media drive. They would then need to know which car was infected and they would then need a method of control and proximity.

2LT and 3LT have a built in taser that instantly immobilizes unauthorized (non- key fobbed) individuals when they touch the start button

I believe I read it's like an on star notification of some sort.

it's as simple as:

if someone wants your car, they will take it...

dont let it concern you... with onstar, i'm sure they would be deterred... since the vehicle can be located w/ ease... if it can't... insurance will get you a new car.

computer nerds wont know where to take stolen cars anyways, and if it gets that advanced.. they will steal exotics versus a cheap vette... honestly not worth even wasting a minute thinking about it... we dont live in a "gone in 60 seconds" nation... exporting high end cars is actually kinda difficult now adays... and fencing a stolen vette is near impossible.

I think on the 3LT there is an ejection seat.
