No, parking in reverse will not be a requirement for shutdown on the 2014 as it was in 2005. Only 2005 has that distinction. They resolved the need to do that for the 2006 and up models.

Programmed out after MY2005. The Pillsbury Doughboy steering wheel was programmed out after MY2005 as well.

Just out of curiosity, why was this a requirement in the first place?

It was the first year with a new electronics suite and keyless ignition. They needed a feedback loop to trigger a complete shutdown. Park does it in the auto. The car maintains a light sleep state to be able to respond to fob interrogations (start button, door unlock, door open, etc.) so it needs to remain partially awake but on shutdown it is able to turn off other electronics that won't be required to wake the vehicle. Turning those off prematurely would prove aggravating for owners if a system wasn't online when they went to use it.
In subsequent years they were able to program it out and just time the shutdown sequences.
