Had the same thing happen to me before the C6's came out. Went to local dealer and told them what I wanted and would pay MSRP. They agreed and told me they would call when I could place my order. They called and told me to come in and when I sat down to do the order they said they had to tack on $5K due to demand. I was pi**ed. I had waited 6 weeks just to place the order. They actually saved me a lot of money because I bought a new 2004 C5 heavily discounted at another dealership. I still have it and love it but I am ready for a C7 when the dust settles. I have never been back to that dealership. I have been to another local dealership for parts, service plus all base warranty and extended GMPP warranty work. Over the 10 years I have owned it they would have made more money by not trying to screw me.
I'm a firm believer that the entire process should be enjoyable. If that wasn't the case ...then you did the right thing.
When your ready I recommend forum dealers. My last corvette purchase with a forum dealer (Dave at kerbeck) was flawless in execution and my most memorable of all corvette purchases.
The only one better was at my local Cadillac dealer the month before as my ordered in new Cadillac CTS AWD 304 hp came in early on a Sunday. Monday was a bank holiday and they gave me the car without me handing them a check.....This being the fourth vehicle I bought from them...they told me to enjoy the car and come back sometime later in the week..to pay them ....
Now that is a story I remember as well..
If you don't get a good feeling while paying msrp for buying a new corvette and the cause was a local dealer shenanigans.....
Consider the forum dealers as men of their words. I really had a nice time using the forum dealers for my then new corvette. I will certainly use a forum dealer next time as well. The level of service is exemplary.
+1 Just went through this with my car bud who was trying to buy a Boxster. I told him, "you want to feel good every time you get in your car. If you have a bad buying experience, you will remember it every time you get in." When the time and circumstances are right, you'll get what you want and be happier. Good luck. markinDayton
Fortunately, skipped the bypass, but tempus fugit and all that...
Getting my first vette with this order, and have had bad experience with greedy low rent local dealer (mall Chevrolet cherry hill nj) who lured me in with promise of a "deal" and then wanted 10k over msrp because of the low allocation
(he only had 4) .... expressed 4 letter reply to that bandit and walked.
Ordered from Kerbeck in AC...no bs..

Glad you came through it ok. I've purchased performance cars twice during their intro year and both times were a mistake. Like I said, patience has served me well since.
enjoyed talking with you too.....don't give up, I really think you will love the Stingray.....it will happen
.....I have a guy that can go back and forth to Chicago area easily.....just have to get around the trade....anything changes on my end, will let you know and appreciate the consideration!
We will continue to have great availability of Stingray!

I shall not play that game, homey. Enjoyed talking to Rick Conti, and would go with him if this were a straight cash deal, but too complicated to do a long distance trade.
Sadly, I'll have to wait til next spring or summer to enjoy my VY Z51. Tho better that than waiting, frustrated, at the mercy of a mediocre salesman and really lousy sales manager. Hopefully someone else can earn the $8500 dealer profit (and for what again????)
This is the informantion age. A dealer is stupid to try and gouge a customer on the price. I'm not even considering paying MSRP. I wouldn't on any other vehicle I'd buy. A Corvette would be no different.

Hmmm, well, I understand the emotion, but it sounds like the cost of your heart surgery did buy you more time. I know the cost of my cancer treatment bought me more time! I think it's smart to spend those dollars on medical insurance premiums and copays rather than giving it to a dealer for an over MSRP markup!
Some dealerships ("stealerships") are just oooozing sleazy salesmanship. Spread the word, see them change, or watch joyfully as one-by-one they go out of business.

Mall is still pulling those antics? I purchased my 1989 vette convertible there. Was there for over two hours haggling when I thought I already made the deal over the phone, attempted to walk out twice, picking up my keys from the salesman's desk both times. Finally, they relented and gave me the price I negotiated over the phone. It was a leftover exactly how I wanted it at another dealer in late August when the 1990's had already come out and they were willing to get it for me, but made it very aggravating. I haven't been back to Mall since and I've purchased 2 corvettes since then.

Some things in life can give you a different outlook on life. Especially the loss of life.
You can always make more money. You may as well enjoy it, you had to work for it..... We cant take it with us. All we can take with us is the memories..... May as well enjoy life. If you want to spoil yourself with a new toy to make more memories for yourself, good for you. Go for it.
LOL, ill wait 2-3 years into production like every other corvette ive bought. I don't need to be first on the block. nobody likes that guy anyway.....LOL. And I don't want to be the Alpha tester for all the bugs they will have either. See how many make it through the first tank of fuel before a dealer visit. So think twice before needing to be that guy.........
MSRP is only a suggested price. Markups are normal at car dealerships and happen with regularity. This pattern showed itself back when Nissan was selling its then-new GT-R. People willingly got in line to get bent over so they could have the car first. If you are not the type to have the new car before everyone else does, then wait for someone else to buy it, not like it for whatever reason, turn it back in for resale. Let someone else waste their money. This is what people on the GT-R forums seemed to not fully comprehend as they would willingly buy a marked up car then complain that they were "ripped off"--big contradiction there.
Was it that dirty Hendricks Chevy that made you cancel your order ?
I am dealing with them now on ordering a new C-7.
Any advice working with this dealer as he is the closest one (102 Miles) from where I live. Hopefully trading my 2012 GS if the trade in price is right.
