The Money reviewer complained that the C7 shifter was too stiff and hard to shift quickly, which would incline him to get the auto (!!). Can any C6 owners speak to this? (I doubt that GM has chosen a shifter that feels that much different for the new car.) Does the shift action get less notchy with time? And if anyone has driven an FR-S or BRZ can you compare the shifting feel to your C6?
All MTs get easier as they get worn in. I have read other reviews that have said the C7 MT was fairly smooth. Probably depends a bit on the car you get and how worn in the MT is.
My guess would be the writer got a car that had already been flailed about by many others that didn't own the car, just wanted to see what they could 'force' it to do without financial penalties. The linkage very likely needed some adjustment by the time he got it.
Yesterday there was the post where the guy kept ramming it from 1st to 2nd time after time trying to get 'posted' acceleration times. No way I'd let a dude like that even sit in my car. He had no respect at all.
My C6 is a breeze to shift, always has been. I am thinking that some of these test drivers couldn't drive a Volt with out problems, heavy shifting methods, slow feet and just generally clueless behind the wheel. Different cars will have different feel, some may need a little adjustment here and there, which most likely won't happen. Some can't launch the car, 0-60 in 5.15 sec or worse, gotta think that they have no business giving reviews of performance cars, or they should be reviewing Buicks, Caddys, or any other car with an automatic in it.

That was a GM performance engineer that cut the blistering 5.15 0-60. You think it was his first time driving a C7?

OP, I have a 2013 GS that I bought new last Dec which now has 16.5k miles, and when it was new it was a bit difficult to operate mainly because everything was really stiff. After about 300 miles the car settled and it is easy to row through the gears with minimum effort. Also I drove a 2011 Carrera S a couple of days ago and I personally didn't like the shifter at all, because I continually felt like it wasn't in gear. It was a CPO car so maybe the owner didn't take care of it. But I did realized and understand why there is a big split between Vette guys and P-car guys. At the end of the day I think it all comes down to preference.
The OP has a genuine complain I miss my 4L65E in my 06 GTO just mash the gas pedal and instantly went to the correct gear every time on my A6 GS that ain’t happening I have to go searching for the appropriate gear myself.

the best shifting car I have owned was my 2001 MB SLK320 - it was great...my previous car was a Grand AM and that shifter sucked compared the MB. I like the shifter in my slingshot better than the corvette but the corvette is not bad - I find it a little difficult in the corvette to go from 6 to 7th and then downshift from 7th. this could because of not having done this very often yet. However, I hardly use 7th...only if on a highway and clear. I try to take back roads...I enjoy the scenery better and the turns.
so - IMHO - the manual in the corvette is fine and about a 8 out of 10.

Old thread but I thought I’d reply. I never drove a C7 manual until I got mine. I didn’t even go for a test drive. I was a little surprised by how hard it is to shift. It does seem to be getting smoother and I hope that it’ll smooth out over time. I have found that in the cold, 2nd gear sucks. I usually skip it until the car gets warmed up.
If you want a smooth manual, drive a Miata or the one in a Honda Civic Si. Those are the benchmarks. My previous car was a ‘16 Miata. The shifter was smooth as butter. So very nice.
So far, I’m a little disappointed in the manual in the ‘Vette, but I still wouldn’t get an auto. I don’t hate it, I don’t love it, it’s just ok. And manual is better than no manual, so I’ll take it
The manual is the sole reason I got a ‘19 instead of getting the new one.
The only manuals I disliked were the BMW 5 series 95 and 08 models I had which had a horrible 1st to 2nd notch which really prevented quick shifting. My C7 has no such notches and I am very pleased with the way she shifts.
