Default Interior question...

So we have heard over and over that if it looks like aluminum then it is aluminum etc... So the steering wheel and the center console by the driver mode select switch look like aluminum to me. It may sound silly but are they? If so that would feel really nice to the touch!

I still question the steering wheel. Is it really die cast aluminum?

When I messed around with the new car a few weeks back, I was investigating the same sort of thing.

Yes, to answer your question Aubaub787, those areas are definitely metal.

Now as to whether or not they are actually some kinda nonferrous alloy...? Nah, that's just me being silly.

I'll take an extra 10-15 lbs in various materials to make the interior nicer than the cheap looking and feeling plastic of previous generations.

If it looks like it, it is. The non carbon fiber dash doesn't look like it.

Yeah I'm not trying to start an all inclusive interior quality debate..I love the interior..and I am glad to get real metal inside even if it did way a couple pounds more.. It still does 0-60 in 3.8...lol

The non-carbon fibre dash trim looks like plastic, so that's what it is. That's OK by me, I saved some money by not getting the FAY carbon fibre trim.

Like maybe -- Corvette should have made a bunch of early 2014s and sent them around the country to the middle to large dealers for them to house on the dealership floor only -- to show, sit in, and talk about just how this new design looks and feels.

Most of us are ordering the car and extras (or not) on images in the media and words or writers.

I really wish the 1LT could have had the Carbon Dash..... I would have gladly gave them $1k for it however, sadly, you had to pay $5.2K.... Damn 2LT ruined all the fun

LOL if it looks like plastic, it's plastic.

Agreed on being okay with the plastic dash trim. I honestly would pick a C6 interior over the C7 interior if it saves 10-15 lbs and reduces further the already low MSRP. Or, if they had kept the C6 interior and spent extra for an additional 20 hp instead of on improving the interior and kept the price as it is. Corvettes are meant to perform and have great styling, not to please the feminine "I like how the leather feels and the stiching looks" crowd. I understand GM didn't have much choice and had to go this way to try to get Porsche buyers.

I'm thinking about having the grey plastic dash painted to match the white exterior. By the way interior will be red. Thoughts?.....

Interior will be red with black wheels.

I don't understand it. The $1K carbon fiber panel only covers that top portion of the dash, but doesn't cover below the radio all the way to the center console. What's the point? It just looks like an add-on at that point. To me, it looks aftermarket.

I think if they made it go all the way to the center console, I would have ordered it. But for just one piece, especially throughout the entire interior, it just doesn't seem to go with anything else.
