The new painted cars sit in back of the plant for ??? a week to a month. Then they are covered and shipped are they detailed or at least washed before shipping? What does the dealer do for prep. before the cust.gets their car?

I hope they wash them before they put the covers on but I don't know the answer.
Dealers usually wash a new car. Some may buff them too.

Probably not "detailed" in any common meaning of that word but properly prepared for the shipping cover. If you don't want your dealer doing any prep to your car's exterior, tell them. You have committed to purchase it, they don't need to "shine it up" to convince you to buy it. It's your baby---- do what YOU want
I have bought 4 new Corvettes in the last 24 months - 5 including the C7, the dealer is instructed not to touch the Corvette for delivery. They go right to the detail shop for full paint correction, Cquartz and then clear vinyl protectant film. Properly covered and shipped or not - the paint always needs 'help'.
My orbital buffer and compounds are ready. I wouldn't want to let the dealer have all the fun, so they won't be touching the paint. Just one more thing I'm looking forward to!

amen...a simple rinse please, Mr dealer....no machines used on my ride! When I get it home, the procedure will be:
1. dawn wash and clay
2. orbital with white pad and Meg's 205 to polish
3. alcohol wipe
4. Orbital with blue pad and Blackfire wet diamond sealant
5. Two coats of Blackfire Crystal seal...
Now that we're talking about the fun we'll have polishing the new C7, here's what I'll do with mine.
1. Wash (maybe with dawn) clay bar hopefully not needed
2. orbital with Menzerna Nano finish (could use Super intensive finish if needed)
3. orbital with Pinnacle Advanced Finishing compound
4. Coat of Wolfgang Fusion wax for a bit of protection
5. Multiple coats of Pinnacle Souveran paste wax (best shine... period)
Of course this will have to be done between drives!
just picked up my black C7 this evening. When the dealer called to tell me the truck just arrived I requested that he not remove the shipping cover or any interior covers until I arrived. (I did discuss with him performing any pre delivery checks etc to avoid violating GM requirements etc. which were done.)
In summary upon removing the cover for the first time it appeared that there were water spots on the paint possibly from the car sitting prior to covering. There was no evident pain damage.i am in no way implying that I am bothered by this since I will personally wash and wax it this weekend. I aim just posting to answer a previous question on this subject.
P.S. Gilbert Chevrolet was excellent and I highly recommend them. Roger Rice, the sales manager delivered the car. I will try to post some pictures tonight.
